The Paralympics

I love most sports but I just cant get into the Paralympics. Its almost anti sport in that although a pursuit of excellence we know the able sports stars are better at the same sports. What we are actually watching is very personal battles of amazing people trying to overcome disability and that feels rather patronizing to both them and the crowd. In London lots of mostly white middle-class people packed the events to cheer them on but it all felt a bit false and disingenuous. Now we know many competitors have been allowed to cheat over classification issues it seems even more spurious as a sporting event. The Brazilians had little interest in it and 75% of tickets had to be given away free.
