Just started growing water spinach

kangkong,ong-choy
Philippines
September 10, 2016 10:01pm CST
It has also other names like Ong choy and here we call it kang-kong veggie, I've seen mom add this to her sinigang dishes. I was not interested in this veggie until a mylotter responded about my constipation problem and recommended me this. So, one day I bought one stock of this and added to my soup. It was good and Grandma said I can grow it by stem alone so I didn't throw them and put them in a vase. Not sure if it's going to work, but if it does, It will save me money from buying to the market. At least I know were this veggie came from.

That is not the right way to grow them. You can sprout the roots in water, but they still need to have soil to grow. Best to plant them in soil, and they will soon grow tall.

@Letranknight2015 Kang Kong is a very strong plant. There is nothing much that can destroy the harvest of it, that is why it is so cheap.

@Letranknight2015 , I also have them at home planted in rubberized flower pots.Try to buy rubberized flower post at least 6. You can plant local tomatoes, and pepper in these pots. Also plant here your local spinach. This is not an enemy of arthritis.

It is not only the leaves that could be eaten in kangkong. Even its stem could be eaten too.

I love veggies and I've never heard of that one, but I'll keep my eyes open just in case I come across it. I'll definitely try it! I know that our regular spinach is wonderful in cases of constipation, as well as adding iron to our blood. I bet your Grandma is right and it will grow! You'll have to let us know!

I keep on putting the scrap of kangkong in a vase with water when I buy this veggie in the Asian shop in Germany. It works well. I have Kangkong in our garden in the Philippines, while I am here this vacation, I eat a lot of this veggie.

Water spinach is one of my favorite vegetables. We often buy this kind of food to eat. from the supermarket. The stems are very tasty when cooked with some hot pepper and garlic.
