Favorite German Bands #8 - Rammstein

#8 in my Favorite German Bands series is industrial-metal band Rammstein.
Fronted by charismatic vocalist Till Lindemann, Rammstein formed in 1994 in Berlin. The band got their big break when, according to Wikipedia, they entered and won a Berlin amateur band contest.
"Du Hast" was nominated for a Grammy in 1999 for Best Metal performance. Combining a dance beat with loud, Ministry-style guitars, the song reached #20 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart, the (Wikipedia, again) highest placing German tune in that chart's history.
What can I say? I love industrial-metal. These guys, following in many industrial footsteps, kept that musical style relevant, and at least a little within the mainstream eye.
And they're fun!

This was their biggest hit, but probably the closest they came to the actual mainstream. It was a popular song, but if you weren't watching MTV, you might have missed them.

I love them to pieces. Listening to them made me interested in actually learning German. My favourite song would have to be Mein Teil

Yeah, they're definitely a pretty good reason to learn the language, just to understand the lyrics.

My putting coach is a metal fan, but I don't know what branch of metal he likes. Could you explain the difference in "industrial metal" and other types of metal?

Industrial is dark , with bands like Skinny Puppy, often danceable like with Front 242. Some use loud, metal guitars, like Ministry and these guys do. Early Nine Inch Nails was considered industrial, as well.
