We don't get a lot of earthquakes in Kansas, but several years back I heard one. I thought maybe it was a train derailment at first, but as the neighbors and I discussed it, we realized it was an earthquake quite a ways to the north of us. I didn't feel anything, just heard it.

Well you are lucky that it wasn't of high intensity.
Earthquake takes a lot of lives and is a scary experience.

I have been through a few earthquakes.. It is a surreal experience in that initially one is not aware what is happening... and it feels different.. Then it becomes evident that one is experiencing an earthquake and then its a dash to take cover..

I did. I used to live in California. Been through a few. But the most memorable one was when I was 7. Big earthquake of 1977. Everything came crashing down off the walls and everything. Didn't sleep for a long time after that.

yup and its pretty scary. we were on the second floor when the devastating 1991 earthquake hit us. it was 7.8 on the richter scale.

I would love to experience an earthquake, so long as I am not injured. It must feel awesome. I am personally not a big risk taker, but I do not have many fears. I can usually conquer my fears pretty well, like I got over the fear of height, water, etc.
How does it feel, hollywood?
