Playing With Numbers-Week 1

No, I’m not playing the numbers, but my life is ruled by numbers. I monitor my weight, glucose, step count… The list is endless. I check the numbers daily, but I’m not good about recording them. Well, I set up a table to keep track of the required ones and added several other things that I just want to do, like record the amount of time I spend working on my next book, and whether or not I completed my Daily Bible Study. I ended up with six categories. Weight: I only weight myself once a week so if it’s down I get the points for the whole week. To get the points for the glucose, it has to be within the acceptable range. Step count: 12,000 steps which is four miles. I can usually hit 10,000 but I have to push to get to 12,000. The Bible Study is either I did it or I didn’t, and I have to spend at least an hour writing to get credit for that. If I make it over to the Y to swim three times within the week I can earn a bonus point. There are 110 days until the New Year. To get the point for the day, I have to hit 5 of the 6 categories. With the swimming bonus points, there are potentially 125 points. If I hit 100 points by the New Year, I get a prize. I haven’t decided what that prize will be, but I thought this would be a fun personal challenge. Do you reward yourself when you reach a goal?

I have to push myself to get beyond 8,000. It's worth it, but it doesn't feel like it at the time.

It's a means of getting myself to check my glucose every morning. I'm not good about doing it.

I used to reward myself for attaining goals but have not done so in ages. When I get to the store later this week, I have to buy a new scale. I forgot mine when I moved and while I'm trying to eat better, it's hard to judge how I'm doing without the scale! Congratulations on all your hard work! You're a great role model!

@BettyB They do say that once a week is healthy. You're doing the right thing!

I was weighing myself every day but that was too depressing. I had to drop it back to once a week.

Whoa whoa.. you are living by too many numbers.. I have BP and Glucometers that record the last fifteen readings.. Though I hardly use them.. I do my bit and weigh myself only one every two months.

I found I walk more if I carry a pedometer. Right now its reading 9,234. I'll reach my 12,000 today.

Oh yes, I love rewards, and find it works as a great incentive.

I hope it works. At least I'm going to do it for the next three months. After that, I don't know. If it works I'll keep doing it.

Its great the way you maintain and record these numbers. And the happiness we feel after reaching are goals is the biggest reward
