Purse stolen from car! Only running in for a split second ...

United States
September 13, 2016 12:36am CST
Lately on the news, I have been hearing about ladies getting their purses stolen because they are leaving it in the car. Why? They claim to be running in the store for just a split second. Although, one may think they are running in the store for a split second - most cases you are gone for more. Please be sure to bring your purse or at least 'hide' your purse underneath the seat or somewhere that it isn't EXPOSED in your face. Then again, if you are unlucky thieves will usually look for people who are not carrying their purses, so if they do not have their purses or some sort of clutch, wristlet and you drove from a car, chances are you are hiding your bag in your car right?! Just be alert! Recently had a previous acquaintance on Facebook got their car stolen in-front of their house too.

I have tried leaving millions inside the car wrapped in a newspaper and plastic bag where nobody would think it's money in there. I haven't had any experience anything stolen from my car at all. And I hope not to experience it in the future.

Do you mean you leave millions of dollars in your car? I'm surprised that anyone would carry that much money around. @toniganzon

@RubyHawk Yes. During the election period cash was needed. We had to withdraw such big amount from the bank to give out to the leaders of each single unit in one district. And our business location is 65km away from our bank. We deposit all cash twice a week only. Thus we carry such big amount to the bank for deposit as well.

I hear it all the time and see it too. I can't tell you how many times I have walked by cars and their purse or wallet is just sitting on the seat. Sometimes there is just money laying there. They may have the doors locked but somebody will break a window for any amount of cash. People leave their laptops, tablets, etc. in the car and have them stolen. People just need to learn to be more careful and to take care of their stuff rather then just letting them laying around for somebody to steal.

I know what you mean! I walk by not looking intentionally but it is RIGHT THERE.Like seriously? At least try to conceal it. And I have been seeing on the news lately , these people who are losing their items claim to be gone for a spilt second ~ crying saying they had money etc and are asking for help!

@infatuatedbby well it is their own fault of they leave it there in plain view. People shouldn't take what isn't theirs but they will.

I agree, we need to keep our guard up in cases like this. Even if they locked the car, some thieves even break car windows to get stuff. I had a co-worker before where his company laptop was stolen from the car by breaking the car window so yes, we need be alert and be careful all the time because you can never really tell when this would happen.

Yes, even though our cars are locked - thieves will still break the car window to get what they want. Even if it may not be much or no value to them. We have to be alert on our surroundings and just don't leave anything in the car! Even the trunk too. Sometimes like during the holidays you do a lot of shopping and your trunk is full. Then, you stop by somewhere else people could be following you especially if you're shopping at luxurious or high end stores or they saw what you bought, etc.

I once, back in the 80's, left my wallet in my truck. They took the whole wallet, with 280 bucks in it. Expensive lesson.

I can't imagine why anyone would even think to leave their purse in a car Though I've heard even worse things that people do, and especially in the hot weather. Leaving their babies or pets locked up in their car. The result is not positive. :-(

That is correct . Never ever leave anything at your car , even if they are locked because here robbers can really be so good in opening cars and even stealing the car itself .

We had our car stolen in front of our house years ago in Italy. We never leave anything in the car and I always hide my purse even when we are in the car. Some guys when you have to stop at a light, break your car window and steal your purse.

Oh no! Did you end up finding the car afterwards? We don't leave anything valuable in the car either because sometimes you never know who you come across at the stop light - you are right!

@LadyDuck Wow! Did you get reimbursement from your car insurance? Glad you were able to use the car again after being fixed.

@infatuatedbby Yes, the police found the car 3 months later... without the wheels, but at least we were able to have the car fixed and we could use it again.

I can't think why anyone would leave a purse in a car. I need mine with me, it's where I have all my necessities for shopping.

I need mine always but I have no clue, maybe people are lazy to carry it. It's pretty common on the news lately about people just bringing their bags!

I don't care a purse. I have no use to care one, My sister will leave her purse in her car and in the front seat, she does take out all of her important stuff though like her wallet, phone, etc. She just has too big of a purse to carry around with her. Plus she has about 3-4 different purses/bags in her car full of random things, but never anything important in them. When she only carries one purse with her it is normally very heavy & who ever tries to steal it will get tired real fast if they have to carry it very far. She also keeps almost her entire closet & bathroom in her purse.

She doesn't want to get a smaller practical purse? Even though there is nothing - many people will still break the cars to steal whatever they think may be valuable.

@infatuatedbby now she likes her bug purses so she can have everything they need. She doesn't care if they break in the car to still be purse because she never leaves anything valuable in there. Even if the purse is covered or hidden people will still break in your car for no reason. People are just jerks in general.
