Putting $2 coins away to save.

Perth, Australia
September 13, 2016 7:44am CST
For a few months now, I've been putting all the $2 coins I get into a container and will be putting it in the bank once the container is full. I cut a slit in the lid and sticky taped the lid down so I wouldn't take any out but I undid it all anyway to count them lol I've got no urge though to spend any of it anyway as I'm really trying to save money. It's been fun watching it grow. I keep asking my dad and brother to swap money with me so it fills up quicker. Do you have a container or jar that you pop coins in every now and then to save?

Years ago, my husband started to fill a huge Rubbermaid jar with $2.00 coins which are called "toonies) here in Canada. When the jar was full it was worth exactly $2,000.00 Good Luck and keep doing it!

@hereandthere I don't remember the exact amount as I lost the paper I wrote it down on but there is over $1000 there. I want to put it in the bank once the container is full. Going to be very heavy lol

@hereandthere It's already heavy now actually lol But am I a weak person. Yeah we do have those in banks thank goodness! Although, apparently there is a limit. Will have to find out what that limit is. May have to make a few trips. Like spread it out during the week.

We have a proper piggy bank where we put all our £2 coins. In our house a £2 coin is never spent - it's saved for our holidays.

@VivaLaDani13 We don't have to smash ours - there's a flap underneath.

@jaboUK That's a real good idea! I've actually never seen a proper piggy bank before like where you have to smash it open. I'd feel bad smashing the cute piggy into pieces lol

Yes we started doing this too. We have two jars one for quarters for laundry and the other for whatever extra change we have left over.

It's good to know you've been in the habit of saving. One of the success author says that it's one of the laws of success. That's the reason why I am learning to save. I have a small box to put the coins whenever I have them. The problem is that when I need some loose change, I took it from the box. I need to discipline myself to really save and let it grow.

@infatuatedbby That sucks! I don't agree with that at all! The banks already make enough from different scams they think of. Greedy!

I save all my loose change and coins and put them into piggy banks for my kids. Once the piggy banks are full, we take them down to the bank and deposit the money into their bank accounts.

I used to keep all my change but gave up on that years ago. Here in the U.S. we have $2 bills but no $2 coins.

I did when I was younger, now I almost never use cash, the few coins I have are in a small container in the entry hall, should I tip the mailman.

@VivaLaDani13 I tip the mailman when he has to deliver heavy packages and he comes to my door instead of placing in the mailbox. I think it's kind to try to help me. Mailmen are well paid here, a small tip is just a way to show them that we appreciated something they did for us... just like to offer them a coffee.

@LadyDuck That is nice you tip the mailman! Is that something you wish to do from time to time personally or is it recommended to do so? I ask because I know that some places / people in America earn money through tips. I wondered if that was the same case where you live too.

Yes I had a very large bottle but two certain people in my house were helping themselves to it until I caught them out. So now I have a terramundi pot and the only way of getting coins out of that is to smash it. Shame because it is a nice pot but if you use a chisel and gently prise the top off you can turn it into a vase!

@garymarsh6 That is awesome! I am very sorry that people were taking the money in the first place though! That's not nice! Doesn't matter if it's a dollar. If it's not yours, it shouldn't be taken! Thank you for sharing!
