She wanted me to be named "Agnes."

I have heard this story a few times now but it still makes me laugh and feel grateful that my mum and dad stuck to their guns!
There was someone in the family called Kate and if I recall, was my mums Aunty. Anyway while my mum was pregnant with me, this Kate woman was telling, not suggesting, but telling my parents to name me Agnes.
I don't mind the name really but I don't think it would have suited me. Especially since it's quite an old fashioned name for a baby being born in the 90s.
Kate was apparently really annoyed that my parents didn't want to use this name. I have no idea why this name meant so much to her but at the end of the day, it's not even her decision. It's 100% my parents choice.
Like I said, the name Agnes isn't really that bad but I much prefer "Danielle."
Was your name picked out easily by your parents or were there a few names being tossed around?

My aunt wanted to name me Marnapuss Marlene! Thank god my parents didn't go with that. Mom wanted to name me Roxanne (Roxy for short) but then they decided to name me after a lady who run the local store. It worked out good because when I was a kid I would always get free candy at the store because I was named after her.

@VivaLaDani13 oh I am sure I would have been. I always wanted to have just an ordinary name like Susan or Shelley. Those names were popular back then. I ended up with a name that was different and I didn't like it when I wasn younger but now I appreciate that they took the time to give me a different name. My sisters all have common names.

@Ritu96 Yeah I can't look at myself now and think of me as Agnes. Although I guess that's hard since I'm used to Danielle lol

I don't know how my name got chosen as I had my name already when I was adopted and my adoptive mom didn't change it.

@irishidid That's fair enough. As long as you're happy with the name too I guess.

@zebra2222 Definitely. No doubt I would have been teased in school for it if it was my name. Really happy it's not my name.

@VivaLaDani13 I am happy too. How awful it would have been to have a friend named "Agnes" ?

My dad named my brother and my mom named me. My dad told me he hated the fact that Mom named me after him. He said she could have come up with a better name than that. So it's a bit rare that I was named after my dad instead of my older brother. The first born usually gets that honor. Dad also told me that he gave my brother the middle name of Augustus but Mom just wrote down Gus on the paperwork. Dad was not too happy about that either.

@VivaLaDani13 Dad said it was because she was too lazy to spell it out. But who knows for sure. Mom will be turning 92 this October but I'm sure she wouldn't remember why.

@RichardMeister Hope your mum has a good birthday though. My mums birthday was....well still is...I feel weird saying it's someones birthday when they aren't alive anymore. Hers is on the 23rd of October. I can't remember how old she would have been though.

@RichardMeister oh dear! So was it because she preferred Gus or was it just a misunderstanding?

I'm not sure how I can to be Judy or more correctly Judith. Mum never called me Judy as she said she had had too many milking cows called 'Judy'. It seems strange that she still used Judith. She must have known many would shorten it.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of the name Agnes, it's okay but as you said old fashioned. My name was the first name they picked and they both liked it so they went with it. =)

@LovingMyBabies Your name is a beautiful name. I've always like it! Do you prefer people calling you by your full name or Jenny / Jen for a nickname?

Mother Teresa? Really? Grand aunt wanted you named after Her? Not that anything was wrong with Mother Teresa. She was a spectacular personality! lol
Edit: Sorry I forgot Okay so how my humongous name came to be (scowl) I don't like my name but I like to use it (if that makes any sense) Over here, father's sister gets the first right to name the newborn. (Though she can give the rights up if she desires and parents can also opt to name their child differently if they don't like the name. But it rarely happens)
My only aunt named each of his nieces and nephews! That will be 3 kids of her eldest brother (my father), 2 kids of her middle brother and 2 kids of her third brother.
I was the first kid so there was no way I was going to escape lol I am her favorite and very close to her also. So she named me after her best friend who was named Baljinder. She named me Daljinder! My nickname "Honey" was coined by her too.
