Mayon Volcano is Swelling !

It was in the news last Saturday day that there is an alert level for the activity of Mayon Volcano , the famous landmark of our province that you can see in the picture , I have just taken this morning .
It is said to be emitting ashes of sulfuric materials, always with smoke and that it is swelling the past days .
Actually , hubby and I thought days before that Mayon is that because it is unusually hot the past days and the news confirmed our thought .
Mayon Volcano is said to explode every 10 years and the last time it erupted was 2006 , yet mildly only . Though after a few months typhoon Reming hit us and those lavas deposited at the foot of Mayon were washed down to nearby places because of the flash flood , killing more than 300 people and damaging so much properties and farms .
So now it’s the 10th year , so we expect it to explode but we hope it will just be a mild one and no typhoon will follow . Though it already exploded mildly, just a few years back .
I really pray that if ever it explodes , it will be a mild one again , hurting and killing no one .

Volcanoes scare me also, and you are right about that.

Nobody wants an eruption of a volcano . It may not reach our place but my heart goes to those poor people who lives at the foot of the volcano . They have to evacuate and worry about their animals being raised for livelihood and also their plants .

@SIMPLYD Is that how Mt. Mayon looks today?! Beautiful! It reminds me of my first girlfriend, who was 18 years old and I was 19!

Yes that is true . That is why if an active volcano keeps having mild explosion , it will be safer because there is a less possibility of a big eruption .
So the Disaster committee of the government are really always prepared for any eventuality of a calamity like this . Evacuation will be done for those people whose houses maybe affected , as soon as the volcanologists gives the signal .

@Bluedoll Thank you for that my dear . At least , it confirmed some of my knowledge about volcanoes.
I am glad that now volcanologists can predict or gauge if it is going to erupt , At least they can warn the people so they will prepare for evacuation .

I find its pretty swell that they can predict eruptions now. I had to read something to verify. Still I think they are beautiful in picture but have never been close to one.
Eichelberger said. - "Water is actually the most abundant gas in magma, but because there is already so much of it in the atmosphere, measuring it is not useful in forecasting eruptions."
Mount Merapi is expected to erupt at any moment, and Indonesian officials have begun to evacuate people living near the volcano.

Yes, we can hear the rumbling if ever . Actually its emission of some sulfuric materials would sometimes reach us . I noticed that i have just wiped the top of the television and after some hours there would be white thing dust like materials . I have to close the windows of our bedroom .

Oh dear. That can be dangerous... but as I read on the comments and interactions here, I think people around the area are more and better experienced to handle the situation if et all it gets bad.
But still, as it is mother nature's fury and no one can precisely predict it, I am sure, people around will be careful and the Government will arrange for proper support.
Praying for the safety and well being of all.

@SIMPLYD Initially when I first saw the photo, I thought it was the cloud just as on other pics of Mayon on FB from you. But as I read through the discussion and comments, I realized it was the smoke from the crater.
Does the Government plan to make arrangements to evacuate the population that might be affected in case the eruption is dangerous? I only hope that the scientists who are studying the activities, read it right.

@thesids Had we not heard the news that it is emitting smoke i would also think the same as you about it .
Yes, the government is ready at anytime for the evacuation . Our governor always want zero casualty in case of calamity . He would even entice the people who are stubborn and won't want to evacuate , some kilos of rice and groceries , just so that they get out of danger .

Yes, the Philippine volcanologists are now busy monitoring the activity of Mayon .
So far , it was announced last Saturday , but up to now , no additional information . I think the activity subsided . But as you can see in the picture a smoke is coming from its crater , when it's not that way for the past years .
We are hopeful that it will just be a mild one , since it mildly erupted a few years ago .
Thank you for your prayer . We need that .

Those who evacuate are those people in the danger zone . The committee on evacuation will do the evacuation once the Philippine volcanologists gives the signal , days before it is presumed to erupt .
As of now , there's no news as to its activity , so i think Mayon has calmed down .
Thank you , we will .

It is indeed scary . We never know the extent of the explosion that it will make .
Though we have the bureau where they always monitor the activity of the volcanoes and they will give the alert warning for the people so they can evacuate once perceived to explode .

Those who are near it , will be evacuated once the volcanologists sees some major activity of the volcano .
You see , some people want to live by its foot because plants are bountiful there and good for raising animals for a living .
They rely on the volcanologists for the warning .

@IreneVincent Oh yes , they know what they are doing indeed . Through them the disaster committee of the province , evacuates the people near the volcano , for safety .
We may be far , but in some mild eruptions where ashes are erupted , some of them reaches us still .

@SIMPLYD Well, I hope they get the warning in time to escape and I hope the volcanologists know what they are doing. I would think that it would be difficult to predict.
I remember when Mount Saint Helens blew up in 1980. The mountain had been swelling for days before it finally blew and many people did not heed the warnings.
