I confess that I am a germophobe, I fear the germs and I am a bit maniac about hygiene. I am never comfortable when I have to sleep at the hotels. I always wonder if they really change the bed sheets between guests. I imagine you are saying, luxury hotels surely do, right? No, wrong. An "Inside Edition" investigation found that even luxury hotels may "forget" to change the bed sheets. If you are curious to know more, here is the link to the article: http://www.insideedition.com/investigative/18586-some-bed-sheets-are-not-changed-between-guests-at-hotels-investigation-finds Would you have imagined that the Marriott hotel could do something like this? Disgusting!

I saw that article. Wow, that's really disturbing. Perhaps, when one goes to a hotel, the first thing one should do is to spill something on the bed and ask for the sheets to be changed.

That is a good idea about spilling some thing on the bed sheets and asking for a new set.

I always brought with me a pj that covered all my body when I had to sleep in a hotel. I never trusted them, not even the luxury chain. This investigation shows that I was right.

@vandana7 My dear going from Europe to the United States bringing your sheets and towels would be very expensive because the excess weight of your luggage costs a fortune.

Oh they change ours - I make sure that somewhere or other I mess some coffee to make sure its done - I am a germophobe as well - and TOWELS - well I wet them to the worst possible. Oh and I remove the throw's first and foremost as I think they NEVER get changed and carry the most germs

If we really knew half the stuff that was going on with the hotel staff (or in this case, the stuff that is not going on), we would never sleep in a hotel again ever! It's not different than when I worked in a restaurant as a teenager. If the public knew half the things that the cooks and waiters did in the restaurant, they would never go out to eat ever again! Sometimes, it's better that we don't know what really goes on in some places; we'd be appalled!

I could always tell if the sheets have been changed or not. Thank goodness that never happened to us, or our stay would be free! My son dated a girl at Cornell who was in the hotel and hospitality school. The things she told us would make you stay home forever!

Wow @DianneN I don't think I want to know.. I worked as a housekeeper for many years at 4 different motels. We never did anything at any of them that would have been questionable. They sent us on weekends away for training even. I seen lots of disgusting things that guests left behind, but we did our jobs correctly.

I am also pretty good in telling if the sheets have been changed, but I cannot believe that this hotel can do something like this. Even if we knew everything that happens in the kitchen of big restaurants we would eat at home forever.

It is very likely, this is why I carefully examine the bed sheets and pillow cases whenever I check in. I experienced it at Forest Hills Hotel, the bed sheet did not feel good on my skin so I had to call them so they could change the sheets. I know how new sheets smell and feel, I told them. They were very apologetic.

@LadyDuck It really was horrible for my son. It was expensive to treat their apartment and there were some things they had to throw away. I don't think they change the comforters either. That's why I will either take them off the bed or fold them down to the bottom of the bed. I won't use them.

Many of the hotel that we stay at.Would ask you if you want your sheet wash daily. I have not problem with this.if they have clean sheets when we are there. Then there is not sense to have clean sheets daily. Not keep this in mind the reason for this.that they do not want to use too much water and degeterent to hurt the environment. Anna of all the traveling we do and places that we stay .We have been lucky in not getting any germs etc. I do hope that this will continued on.but I do understand what you are saying there. Some people even bring their own sheets and towels/

When I stay at a hotel I expect clean sheets on the bed. At home, well I don't wash the sheets as often as my mother did but we've got AC and don't sweat the night away. I'm comfortable with every two weeks.

I stayed at the hotels and motels a lot when we traveled for business and every time I checked carefully to see if there were signs showing that the bed sheets had not been changed. So many times I have found bread crumbs and "hair" in the hidden corners.

Your post is revealing. Next time, when we stay in a hotel, we should ensure that they change the bed sheets regularly. Sometimes, they may change upper and lower cover but not the sheets. It is better to be careful than feel sorry.

@LadyDuck - Yes, whenever we hire a room in a hotel, we must ensure that they have changed the sheets and the room is in proper condition or not. I have travelled to many places/cities in connection with official business. I did not face any unpleasant experience regarding rooms in any of the hotels. Rooms were always neatly done with all things intact and room service was prompt.

@LadyDuck shameful, aint 't? momma managed a hotel here'n town fer a few years. the owners disliked that there t'was a need to purchase new sheets/towels/bedspreads so oft - told her to not wash 'em all the time. she told 'em ('n the maids) that if'n such t'was'n a room, 't'd be washed 'n fresh fer the next who came - regardless 'f whether all the towels were used 'r not 'n the beds'd definitely be changed daily/ the bedspreads e'ery time a guest left 'd be washed. needless to say, 'fter 2 years she'd tired 'f fightin' with 'em 'n left.
