Please don't help me I'm Bipolar!

Does that sound familiar? Probably not. Bipolars are some of the most desperate people walking the face of this planet. Probably they need help more than anyone else. They go from doctor to psychiatrist and from psychiatrist to psychologist, using any and every possible medication available. Then they repeat the cycle with a new doctor, psychiatrist and psychologist and new medications. All of this without getting true and lasting help. What then is the deepest desperation of the Bipolar? The fact that nobody, absolutely nobody understands him. The more people try to help them, the more painful their experience becomes, for they intuitively feel that they are not understood. I have sought for understanding for many decades. Could not find anyone with whom I could share what I am going through. How do you explain to someone that you are unable to function emotionally, that you feel so dysfunctional that you cannot even get up from the bed to put the nail in the wall that your wife asked you to do weeks ago. That you absolutely do not want to speak to people. That you just feel up to NOTHING! One day I opened the scriptures and found this word:- .... there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. Rom 3:11. I took that as God explaining to me that absolutely no one understands the Bipolar, but at the same time, that he as Creator, do understand. SInce that day this crucial battle became easier, I came to acceptance of the fact that it is actually unfair to expect that people who never felt this way, should understand it. Then I knew I had to face this battle alone with God, who felt pretty far away at that time. As the saying goes; I would have preferred someone with skin on. Even now, with more than 37 years experience of this sickness, I feel so at loss to find the words to describe what it is.

This may be the way you feel about being bipolar, but it might not be the way everyone else with this psychiatric illness. you should generalize everyone with this disorder. I am bipolar, but I don't feel desperate or go from doctor to doctor for help or do I need anyone else's help in keeping it under control. My boyfriend helps me with it a lot even though he doesn't have the disorder or met anyone before me with it other than my sister. When I have an episode he is just patient with me. He is a strong and good person for helping me and staying with me as long as he has. It shows us that our love for others can help with a lot of things. Trust me nothing freaks him out more or worries him more than us going on a road trip and me going through all the emotions in just an hour. He has held me while I have cried for hours at a time and couldn't even tell him why I was crying because I didn't know why I was. Or when I get so angry out of no where. I don't feel desperate or in need of someone to understand me because the only thing that is important is that I understand myself. It is different for everyone.

Thanks very much, how wonderful to have a real Bipolar aboard. It immediately gives depth to the discussion, because you speak from personal experience. Naturally you are very right in saying all Bipolars are not the same, and I should not make my experience as if it is the norm. Almost each and every Bipolar is unique and different and experience his sickness differently, which makes it so that one cannot put them in one class. I am glad you have an understanding person to share it with you. Good luck

I understand your predicament. Scriptures have to be read in full and interpreted accordingly. I encourage people with mental health issues to say the following scriptures.. I have the mind of Christ I cor 2:16. Isiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. 1Peter 2:24 By his stripes we were healed.

I know what bipolar is and I can very well understand your state as well.It is not that easy yet not difficult to understand this .My father has the same thing. One important thing is that don't label them desperate because they are not. They are like us only, they are just a bit different from us that is it.

Thanks for understanding Shubhu. Yes it is good not to tag people with labels. You have a point there. Thanks. There is also hope that a cure is possible, despite the fact that the medical world is not very positive about that.

@shubhu3 You are right, but it can be a very great burden on them.
