Just my salute to our mylotters
Who have English as second
language, YOu are in here
trying and if you misunderstand
one word fine,You will soon learn
English as its a hard language to
learn easily.
I admonish us native English
speaking users to go easy if''our
Asiatic users misunderstand a
word.Remember learning a new
language takes time and patience
too. '
So I sa y well done to those who
struggle to learn English as its not
an easy language to learn.Bravos to
you all.

@RasmaSandra French is my native language, so it is easy for me, but I know that it is a difficult language to learn for others.

Hi @Hatley! I agree it's not easy. My greatest struggle is the pronunciation of words. One of them is how to pronounce nouns and verbs like record - noun and record - verb. I usually make mistakes in pronouncing them but I'm so lazy to learn. There are so many available online tutorials, but I devote my time in watching movies.
I've been trying to improve my English for a year now. Everyday I try to open Merriam Webster and get 1 word, its meaning and how it is pronounced. I also highlight the word and let my IPad pronounce it but I noticed sometimes the pronunciation in IPad is different from Merriam's. For instance, my IPad pronounces CHEESE with short E but in Merriam, it's long E. Are they both correct?
Can you suggest an online tutorial or any website where I can better learn English pronunciation? I already asked an American friend to teach me English at least 1 hour every week and I'll pay him. He said his problem is his data. He's not subscribed to unlimited surfing, so he thinks it's not practical and he's also so busy with work.

They certainly deserve to be saluted. I have found several posts that amaze me in that I couldn't image someone having written them having English as their second language.

@Hatley Actually I forgot to mention that the reason English came easy to me back in the US was when I started school I only spoke Latvian. That was what we spoke at home. So when I was in kindergarten I had to learn English. When I got to first grade I knew English better than those for whom it was the only language. Go figure. Thought you'd find that interesting

Very nicely said. I was thinking of that the other day. There are so many people here from other countries and they are all writing in English which is very impressive. Sure they may make a mistake but that is all a part of learning a new language but I can always understand what they are writing. Good Job so all our international myLot friends..you are all doing great.

@Hatley I know it is pretty amazing. I would not even begin to know how to write in their languages.

English is my second language, but I think I'm actually better at it than my own language. Lol!
In any case, myLot is a good place to practice English. And as they say, practice makes perfect.
I think most people here at myLot are pretty patient with those who have difficulty writing in English.
Now, if only we can use other languages here... because I would love to learn more.

Ooh, love this graphic! You are so right, people need to be patient with those who are learning. I admire everyone who is trying.

I know a few who apologize all of the time, for wrong words and such, and frankly, I think they do a GREAT job!
