Taking that Chihuahua home made a long drive

Eugene, Oregon
September 15, 2016 5:58pm CST
We were Chihuahua puppy sitters for three nights and two days, then my daughter got home from her business trip. Given traffic rush hours and since she works at home on Wednesdays the easiest way to get her puppy home was to deliver it. So, at about 10 AM yesterday, we got the toys, the kennel, and the food into the car. Anne held the tyke, and we got to Portland by noon without incident. In fact, the dog even walked on a leash for me at a rest stop. That was real progress since she had simply frozen with her harness and leash on before. After the delivery, we left quickly since Emily had a plumber coming to give an estimate on a bathroom remodel. We needed to get ahead of the rush hour traffic anyway, so stopped for lunch. The scenic route turned out to be a lot slower than the interstate would have been, even had a traffic jam in the Oregon wine country. The two hour drive home took three and a half, but it was pretty country. I told my daughter that she might have to wait until the weekend to get the pup if we sat again.

I sure the "tyke" was glad to be back home. It sounds like you should have stuck with the interstate if you were in a hurry to get home.

We were not, but I did not plan on that much traffic in the country.

@JamesHxstatic It seems as if you don't plan for something then it happens.

I would chose the scenic drive over the interstate any day. I love seeing the country side while my better half likes to get on the interstate and get there fast. Three and a half hours is a long time though.

I talked my way through that Portland traffic. I was this side of a panic snit but I talked out loud and we did it- that one long circle on ramp that was about as high as a skyscraper and trucks etc. zipping by us, that was a monster. I am glad you and yours are okay.

She got the little pup just a few weeks ago, and missed her so much while she was gone that we decided to make the 100 or so mile drive and back.

Sounds like some progress was made. A three and a half hour drive, though. That's a long time behind the wheel!

Nice of you to take the 'tyke' home. Nice to get out for a drive even it took longer than it should have.

I guess the dog is getting used to your presence now , that why she's not "frozen " anymore .

yes, rush hour traffic can really put a damper on travels. i hate it when i time it wrong & end up stuck in it unnecessarily. i'm sure she was glad to see her pup.
