Grandparents Day

My sister called me yesterday while on her way home from grandparents day at school. She said the school played a good one on grandparents. They were having their book sale on the same day. Of course the grandparents bought their grand children books. She said all the books were bought and the teachers were overjoyed. It was the first time ever, that all books were sold. All the shelves were completely cleaned out and teachers were patting each other on the back. I wondered why someone hadn't come up with this idea before. I believe their book sales are not usually well received and I'm sure the school will remember this in the future. Any grandparents going to grandparents day at school are forewarned, be prepared to purchase books on grandparents day.

Those teachers are crafty! We did the same on parent visiting day. I'm a firm believer in reading, and obviously, so are all grandmothers!

This grandmother is a firm believer in reading. All my grands enjoy reading, well, one not so much, but all the others read, and one is an author.

@RubyHawk That is fabulous! I used to beg the parents of my special education students to read to and with their children every night. I may as well have been speaking to my armpits!

@DianneN I can't understand it. I know parents are busy working and caring for children. But you would think anyone could take 30 minutes to read to a child.

It is a kind of entertaining the children along with parents and grandparents.

@RubyHawk When they have invited the grandparents it implies that the parents should bring the grandparents. Who will bring them to the function other than their own sons and daughters?. I am talking about the cases in general. In most of the cases, the grandparents will not be in a position to attend without anybody's assistance.

@shivamani10 Really, I've never heard that . Parents and grandparents go separately to our schools, It's a special day set aside for each one to visit with the children.

I'm not sure parents were included. When my grands were little the days were separate. We went to the children's rooms and ate lunch with them in the lunchroom. it was a lot of fun to meet their teachers and classmates.

They are learning from whom? These cheap tactics are in India also. Are they learning such methods from each other or they are born with such mean mentality? If they had done it earlier some students would have got their books without spending some money.

I suppose they are used books from the school library. Maybe they have new books coming in and need to move some older books out.

Absolutely, they sold all books that were for sale, so I understood.

That's a great idea! I don't think it's that the book fairs aren't a success or well received, just ill timed.

That could be it. If grandparents or parents are at the school, books will sell. I guess nobody thought of it before.

That's too funny! They finally figured out the one thing that works in selling those books! Great for the school and for the children as well! I love it!

Grandparents day is a perfect time for selling books, probably a good deal, too.

i think the grandparents day here in my place is not well-celebrated on. but when mother's or father's day is announced, we celebrate it with much enthusiasm

Actually it's only a special day set aside for grandparents to visit their grand children's school. Parents are invited on another day. They never had a book sale when we attended, but it's a very good idea.
