I made some nectar today for my hummingbirds. Some of my feeders were empty and also needed to be cleaned, so I took care of the cleaning today. I made the nectar this evening and it’s cooling on the stove. I will refill all the clean feeders in the morning and put them back out. I love watching the little “Hummers.” I have four feeders hanging on a wrought-iron “tree” and its right in front of my living room window so I can see them as they come to the feeders. There are several and sometimes they fight with each other. I also have butterflies and wasps that try to get to the nectar. And now I have a beautiful hummingbird plant that a friend gave me. I planted it under the feeders and the vines are growing up the pole and wrapping around the “arms” that hold the feeders. There are small flowers growing all over the vine. I think I will try to get a picture of it tomorrow, when I get all the feeders back up. I will try to post the photo tomorrow. I hope this plant is a perennial so that it will come up every year. If not, I will definitely purchase another one next year and plant it right away.

@IreneVincent (7460) That's what I want to know. I am thinking it is more than sugar and water

It is just sugar and water. 2 cups of water and 1/2 cup of sugar. Then you bring it to a boil, making sure all the sugar is dissolved. And then let it cool.

@Ronrybs No, it's just 2 cups of water to 1/2 cup of sugar. You stir it in a sauce pan to dissolve all the sugar and bring it to a boil and then let it cool.

Yes, there are several hummers that come every day, so I want to get this done today, before they decide to go somewhere else.

@IreneVincent I guess that is always on the cards - that they'll go elsewhere if the food runs out.
