Day 11 Proverbs 4:1-13 Proverbs 4:1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. 2 For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law. 3 For I was my father’s son, tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother. 4 He taught me also, and said unto me, Let thine heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live. 5 Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. 6 Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. 7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. 8 Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honor, when thou dost embrace her. 9 She shall give to thine head an ornament of grace: a crown of glory shall she deliver to thee. 10 Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. 11 I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. 12 When thou go, thy steps shall not be straightened; and when thou run, thou shalt not stumble. 13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life. As parents we do our best to teach our children how to get the most out of their lives, to be safe from danger, and walk the right paths. One of the things we hope to instill in them is wisdom in everything they do. We can only do so much the rest is up to our children. Solomon taught his children by example showing his children what his father taught him, and how his life was guided by wisdom and understanding. For most of us, our best examples were our parents. We tend to follow in their footsteps using the same methods of discipline and moral conduct as they displayed. If our parents example was founded on the Word of God, and we live our lives accordingly, we will find God leading the way and keeping us from danger. We will also find we will live longer than those who do not know the Lord. God’s instruction manual, the Bible, will be our guide through life and God will sustain us and keep us safe from our enemy, Satan. Solomon said wisdom was the principal thing. We are to get it and understanding and when we do we will find favor and blessing from God as he takes care of us and guides us through our lives. Let’s pray: Father, help me display wisdom and understanding in my life. Let it be the principal thing so I will know the path you are leading me on is the right one and Satan will not be able to deceive me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. As your prayer suggests, "wisdom and understanding in life", the application of this request is akin to Ecclesiastes 12:13 for it is our whole duty in all aspects of life. And the blessings of God shall follow us all our days. Jewish King Solomon was the leader of Israel during the time. Politically, he asked the Almighty for wisdom and understanding in leading the Jewish nation. And Yahweh honored his prayer.

Yes he did. Something we all need to ask for.
