Why is the media so obsessed with celebrities?

It is because celebrity is public figure and has many follower/supporters. Any updates on their beloved celebrity if possible they wanna be the first person to know. Thats what we call obsess. So,media or reporter or even paparazi will contribute much on this and will be so important to make sure all the news and updates can be published to the world.They also make money from there!

Because people are dying to read about celebrities faults and other general gossip about them. The media knows that obsessing over celebrities is a big hit...it's what sells!! $$$$$

Me too...I tune out the news when it gets to that point. So mauch more inportant things going on in the world than who did what with whoam and where...jeez!

i would suggest you try a different channel for your information. try cnn or msnbc or bbc. i'm not sure what other countries channels you might want to check out. maybe other mylottees can help us out with suggestions of good channels for you to check out.
