It's Autumn and It Shows

Today is the first day of autumn, the sky is cloudy and the air cool.
I have noticed, in the grocery store, the typical products of this season, pumpkins, chestnuts, mushrooms and venison.
Autumn has come early this year. The cool weather and the rain have anticipated the end of the summer that has been far to be a great summer.
I have bought a pound of chestnuts. I love them roasted on a wooden fire.
The smell fills the air and brings back memories of my days in school.
It's time to switch from salads to soups and to put in the closet the summer clothes.
Do you already feel the autumn where you live?

We are back in summer weather for a few days but by the weekend it should feel like autumn and I can start making soups again.

Nothing different here, sun is out, it will be 91. My husband loves chestnuts but we don't have an open fire for him - he does them in the microwave.

@LadyDuck oh it's gloomy here too surprisingly! We got a little rain for the past two days now!
But the leaves aren't really crisp if not already they're slowly having pumpkins at some stores but not many!

This week up until now it has been summer-like although there's that coolness at night that heralds the autumn. I do love this time of year but hate what it brings- Winter! Btw I love seeing the wares in your markets in Switzerland and that beige pumpkin is here too and is my favourite type!

@MarymargII In the bags on the left of the pumpkin there are cubes of pumpkin, for people who do not like to have to clean and cut it. On the further left there are sliced white mushrooms.

Yes, the weather is changing! Here we have what is called "Indian Summer", which can be a little spell of warm summer weather. Hope we get one of those this year!

@LadyDuck Yes, it is summer's last struggle before the cold weather puts it to sleep for about 6 months.

@1hopefulman The only things still around from summer are the mosquitoes. I am right back from the garden and they bite me.

It is still hot here in the afternoons. Early this morning, I felt a faint coolness in the air that seemed like Autumn is slowly arriving here.

I'm hoping not to feel the autumn here too quickly, for that means the colder weather is around the corner too. Our temps today was 75 yet it was quite muggy which normally doesn't happen until the temps rise above eighty, so that was different. And, there wasn't any wind to cool any of us off.
We finished our second of the two larger buildings of the condo's today. It went much better than last week since we got it done in one day instead of a day and a half, although we did have another guy to help with the taller balconies.
We have mushrooms all summer long in our stores, although the pumpkins have been out for just over one week now and some of the decorations we sell too like corn stalks and hay.

The temperature is around 55 F in the morning, that is pretty cool for the season. Today is sunny and right now the temperature is 65 F. We also have farm mushrooms all the year round, but not the kind of mushrooms (the porcini) that only grow in the woods and only a couple of months a year. You cannot even compare the taste with the others.

@MarshaMusselman I think that you are talking about morels, they are also pretty expensive but very different from the Porcini. I would never put mushrooms on a pizza.

@LadyDuck Maybe your porcini is similar to our Murrells. Not sure of the spelling on that. I personally can live without mushrooms. If they are big and juicy on pizza's then I pick them off and give them to my husband.
I don't know that farmer's markets in the area sell Murrells, but I do know of a few friends to go to the woods to find them each year.

Yes, it has been in the mid 40 degree range the last two mornings and cloudy as well. Anne is in Salem (60 or so miles north) and there was a huge and unusual thunder storm last night. Leaves are falling already too.

I can feel the air cooling down at night which is typical of the Ber months here as we approach December. We don't have fall season here.

@LadyDuck Yeah I've seen fall on tv and in the pictures. A student of mine sent me a maple leaf she picked in fall and had it laminated. With a note that says, "want you to see fall."

@amandajay Yes, this surely is the reason. I love to look at the snow if I can stay inside and I do not have to go out.
