Why life begins at forty?
I wonder why many people say this.
Is it because it is the peak of our lives where we attain our greatest achievements?
Or it is because, it is the age where we are starting to work hard to attain those things that we want to achieve?
For me, this is the age in our life where we are already stable in our jobs,
Mature enough emotionally, socially and spiritually.
This the age where we can make decisions on our own and stand firm on it.
And this is also the age where we are already enjoying the fruits of our labor.
I know some will not agree because age is really just a number.
And I also know some that even at age 50 or above are still very dependent to others and cannot decide on their own.
Anyway, there is always an exception in every rule, right?

I guess agree in you reason . At this age most people have accomplished much already , like their children has already graduated and they aren't dependent on them as parents anymore .
But then , like you said there always exception to that , since others seem dependent on their parents all their lives .

@SIMPLYD Actually , this man I am talking about is married to a nurse who is working abroad. His wife sends him money every month. They have no children. But he only uses this money for his mistresses.
He always ask money from his brothers too.
He is the youngest among the 11 siblings and I think he was spoiled by his parents.

Life with it's responsibilities and accountabilities should begin long before the age of 40 ... Some people are just making excuses .. My life begun at 10 years old ..

@magallon Actually, I wasn't trained.. I was forced to be responsible .. Sad for a child to take on the responsibilities of adults ..

At age 40 and above, a lot of concerns are behind us. We probably have had our children and they are growing up or out of the nest. We know what we like and what we want in life. But, our bodies start breaking down, relatives and loved ones start dying, and sometimes a whole new set of problems starts up.

This saying first came up to help people know that they are not elderly at forty, but really are entering a prime part of their life where they can enjoy some of the privileges of being mature.

Well, it has to be that we have achieved what we set out to in our lives. And we are young enough to still enjoy what life has to give. Also, I am sure, back in the day when people sis not live as long as they do now, 40 was the age when people slowed down. Not anymore. 40 is now the new 30, so we start our slow down in our 50's.

@magallon - Hmmm? "already enjoying what you have worked and aimed for." I'm still working. I'm still aiming. I'm not enjoying. YET! At this point in my life, I'm rather weary. But each day I ask God to give me strength to carry on. He helps. ... A lot!

I've said it before and i'll say it again life is better if you don't take it too seriously and age is just a number on a page. I am way over 40 but still crazy after all these years and loving it

, Nice post, I remember when I was a child many of my neighbors said that line , and then when I was already in high school I asked them why life begins at 40 when they are already big?
The answer I got that time was: Age 40 is the age when those who abused the self in the past can feel different sicknesses. And the 40 years old person, can experience body pains like back pains, chest pains. This is based on the testimony of the old folks when I was young.
What can you say? Approved?

I agree with you that some use it as a reflection on the past and present of their achievements and failures and what could of happened if I did this or that.
