Has anyone noticed that spice cakes are not as spicy as they used to be? When you get a box cake mix, as I need for this recipe I am making the amount of spice is minimal. I added additonal spice to give it some flavor. Cake companies trying to save money no doubt. Have you noticed the difference?

@Nella448 I just added a bit of apple pie spice to it, cloves would have been good too.

@snowy22315 It's one of my favourites. The book is one of the best that I have on baking -- very easy recipes, lots that use sour cream, and not at all complicated.

It has been awhile since I had some. They are good, though.
