I am making a spice cake / myLot

Has anyone noticed that spice cakes are not as spicy as they used to be? When you get a box cake mix, as I need for this recipe I am making the amount of spice is minimal. I added additonal spice to give it some flavor. Cake companies trying to save money no doubt. Have you noticed the difference?

I always make my spice cake from scratch and put more than the recipe asks for.

I like spice.. alittle cardammon is this cake would have been good.

Yup it's always good to put a little of your twist to it! Most times it turned out better than the recipe

I use the sour cream spice cake recipe out of _Elizabeth Alston's Best Baking._ Makes an 8 x 8 cake, and you can taste the spices in it. Also, very easy to make.,

@snowy22315 It's one of my favourites. The book is one of the best that I have on baking -- very easy recipes, lots that use sour cream, and not at all complicated.

I haven't had many spice cakes, but I never remember them being really full of spice.

I don't make boxed cakes very often so haven't noticed any difference.

I already tasted a spice cake. It's really good although I'm not a fan of spicy foods.

They just added Cayenne.
