Is there a heaven and what can we do to get there?

Sunday 25 Sept 2016 Here below Jesus is speaking to a very important and highly ranked man in the church. This man was supposed to thoroughly know and understand these very basic teachings about Heaven. After all he was supposed to teach the people, not so? But sadly, he was too clever to believe the simple straight forward words of the Lord. His words below give the whole secret of heaven and how to get there, but Nicodemus found it so hard to believe. Read the words carefully. Read them again and again. Let them sink deep into your heart. You do not have to understand them. Just simply believe them. Here is the whole narrative between Jesus and Nicodemus:- You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked. You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and do you not understand these things? Very truly I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things? No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up,that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.”John 3: 7 Jesus is saying the following:- 1. He himself came down from heaven. Therefore there must be a heaven. Otherwise how can he say he came from there? 2. In order to go to heaven you must become born again. 3. If you believe in Jesus Christ you will have eternal life. Are you also a clever Nicodemus? Such an important person in the church but you find it so hard to understand the ABC of the Gospel? Therefore you can speak hours about it, and sound very impressive. Why not just believe the words of the Master? Tomorrow:- What does it mean to be truly born again? Obviously Nicodemus thought he was fine and would be going to heaven. Clearly he did not even comprehend that one should be born again. What does it mean to be truly born again? New life?

Personally, if you believe in heaven, the easiest way to get there is to be a good human....everything else will fall into place.

Maybe he was speaking metaphorically? Like an experience in life can change someone ...completely ...into a different person....thus born again.

@ms1864 No, to be born again in biblical language means that your spirit is made alive, and then you are born into the spiritual world. That happens the day you accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour with the intention to follow him for the rest of your life. It also means turning away from sin in order to do the will of God

Yes it is a choice between Good and Bad. Basically... Good=Heaven Bad=Hell But we need Jesus Christ to become born again and to live a good life. It is He who said that if you are not born again you will not even see the kingdom of heaven. John 3

My husband recently preached a sermon on "You Must be Born Again." Great post.

It is a wonderful thing that true servants of God can still be found. A great majority resembles Nicodemus. Give my regards to your husband please.

He went certainly to Heaven, as he is a saint in the Catholic calendar. He has given a word to French derived from his name, "nigaud", meaning simpleton, and you know that "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God". I suppose that "born again" means a spiritual transformation, not a new life.

Yes, it is not recorded in the Bible what happened with Nicodemus after he spoke with Jesus. My guess would be that he saw the errors of his ways and repented, and eventually ended up as you say.
