I don't know if our fellow mylotters from other countries can relate to this; do you ask for a lower prices when you go to market? In Filipino we call it 'tawad', you ask the vendor (meat, vegetable and even RTW) for a lower prices than the actual price of the said item. Of course we cannot do it in mall, grocery stores and supermarkets, we usually do the bidding in the wet market and in divisorias or retail stores. Its fun because you actually go through your budget. Its just normal to asked for a lower price of fish or meat. And most probably you are given with a reasonable discount or bargain on the item you want to buy. In the Philippines, we always do it.

Yes, I always do it. I do not believe in paying for the full price of something. I know that there is a mark up already so I try to negotiate for a lower price or even some freebies.

No, I don't bargain. I just pay whatever the price they put up. It's my way of supporting their means of living. At least, they don't go around begging.

Not here as all prices are already set since we have to do our shopping at the grocery store. There is a Famer's Market here somewhere and I think there you could probably bargain.

I suck at haggling. My mom never lets me go to the market because I dont know how to haggle. I mean it seems that your taking money from the if ask them to lower the price of their goods.. (wow that sounds like an inuendo) . .. anyway I get really shy to even ask..so no alas that talent is unknown to me.. In other countries i think they have like bundles and wholesale products that are more affordable than if you buy stuff in retail like we do here..

Here in India bargain gives you saving some rupees. The prices will be different at different places. This difference will be more in the case of Vegetables, meat, and other consumer commodities.

It is "tawar" for bargaining in Indonesian, quite similar! I don't generally do unless I know they are overpriced but ask for discounts at art galleries, night bazaars - siva

'tawar' is also our term in Ilocandia, 'tawad' for Tagalog. I'm not good in haggle but sometimes I ask for it.

I think that haggling is very common to Asian countries and so with the thrift shops abroad. Next year, we're planning to go to HongKong so I'm pretty much excited about it. I can't wait to haggle.

Its really fun doing it. The vendor tell you the price and you ask for a lower bid and then give you lower amount but higher than what you asked for and then you asked for lower again, its really good to do it sometimes.
