It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

I noticed the other day that Christmas seems to be popping up already in the stores. Has anyone else noticed this? There are already Christmas trees, Christmas décor, and little Christmassy looking gift packages out there on the selves. It seems that Christmas has already und it way into retail. I can still remember when Christmas didn't appear in the stores until the day After Thanksgiving. I am thinking they are trying to start Christmas way too early these days. What do you think?

I agree but I do like getting those exceptional tins that many cookies are sold in, I give the cookies to friends but I keep the tins and then I fill them with the nonsense I collect, well ok, maybe documents and bills aren't nonsense but I wonder how many years I should keep them

I have a lot of tins filled with my 35mm film and digital disks @HazySue then I have some that are filled with things like paperclips, toothpicks and other such nonsense .... mom did the same thing so now I know that I really must get rid of a lot of that.

@rebelann I like the tins too, some of them are beautiful. I typically keep craft supplies in them. I think I heard that you should keep some papers for 7 years, I'm not sure which ones.

It is a huge marketing thing, keeps people buying more and more even before the actual holidays. I do not like it getting in the way of the beautiful Halloween decor, but I think it also helps people feel a little more joyful. For some people, the holidays is the only time that makes them feel happy and even if it is months early, they have something to think about.

@DesirousDreamer I like for each Holiday to get it's own time to shine. I love the display for Autumn and Halloween but they seem to be lacking somewhat in the rush to sell for Christmas.

@HazySue Yes each holiday does deserve it and for the most part they do, there is autumn and Halloween in about 2 aisles or more and Christmas in one and as other holidays close out, Christmas takes over them.

@DesirousDreamer here in a few of the stores Christmas has taken over and fall has been relegated to one aisle.

Yes I think it is much too early and much too commercialized. The big stores are pushy while with some small business owners it almost looks pitiful.

@Bluedoll it is too commercialized. In some cases it starts to look a little desperate.

@AbbyGreenhill the store I have been in in the last week seem to be pushing Christmas more than Halloween. I am surprised there isn't more Halloween and Fall in the store.

Hello there Christmas. What would we do without it? It does seem to be in store and online earlier every year. The earlier it's in store the more time people have to pay for it. Longer to over endulge already over endulged children. Kids telling parents what they want for Christmas is bad enough at any time- but in September!!! Wow. But it being in store earlier will boost the economy and that can't be bad. Helps keep people in jobs. If it wasn't for Christmas and people putting themselves in debt to keep up with the next door neighbours and make sure that their kids have the latest games consoles and mobile telephones several western countries would lose their triple A credit rating. Did America get the triple A rating back? It's quite sad to see if you ask me. People blowing money they can't afford on something that has got way out of hand. And Xmas in the shops at this time of year really does confirm it's not about Jesus anymore. I am not a bah humbug person at all but I actually know people who are still paying for Christmas 2014. That's sad isn't it? Put it down to peer pressure. Mid November would be early enough if you ask me. I think it's quite possible that there will come a time when Christmas will be in the shops all year round. You might scoff at that suggestion if you don't choke on the eastet eggs in store in January Happy Christmas folks.

@saulgoodman I agree and love you comment. You could have used this for a post. I do believe that people have forgotten the reason for the season. You have made several of my points quite eloquently.

@HazySue Thanks so much for your mind comments. I tend to just say it as I see it and sort of hope I make the point as well as I can. The reason for the season does seem to have got lost in the mist but at least 250,000 seasonal full time jobs will be created in Scotland this year and that has to be good.

I am grateful that there are no Christmas decorations on the shelves yet. I think that we will start to see them at the end of October, just after Halloween. I think that even end of October is too early.

One of the things I don't like about stores putting out Christmas stuff so early is that they start taking it down before Christmas is even here! Then it feels like the holiday is already over. Bummer.

Ugh - yes - it's way too early. It's completely weird seeing the Christmas stuff out now along side with the Halloween stuff. It's not even the month of Halloween yet! We get burnt out on the holidays well before it happens - I don't like it.

I also noticed that. While me and the boyfriend are looking for a good deal for a very nice gift for a friend's wedding, we noticed the store that there are already Christmas decorations displayed in one particular place. And It felt like Christmas any time soon.

Before long Christmas stuff will be up all year long. I prefer Halloween and those decorations better. We don't put anything up for Halloween and we never put Christmas stuff up till the day after Thanksgiving and we take it down the day after New Years Eve.

@CaseyRoss9966 I used to put up the tree the weekend after Thanksgiving when my girls were young. Then after they were on their own I would do it about two week before Christmas. Everything Christmas would come down on New Years Day.
