#9 in my Favorite Acid Jazz Bands is The Grassy Knoll. Essentially the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Bob Green, who seems to welcome guest appearances (Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore plays on the third album, III, for instance.) As a link, I've picked "Driving Nowhere," from the 2nd album, Positive, which came with a protruding + on the jewel case. For a "band" that did a lot of experimenting, "Driving Nowhere" is fairly tame when compared to other Grassy Knoll tunes. My Grassy Knoll story: A friend and I arrived at a small ski area at just before 8am to go snowboarding. While me my friend went to rent a board, I busied myself getting ready, drinking beer, and listening to The Grassy Knoll. Just when an abrasive sax solo started, a pretty girl walked by, giving me a dirty, disgusted look. Was it the music, or the fact that I was drinking beer at 8 in the morning, or both? I'll never know, because she got out of there as fast as possible. Enjoy "Driving Nowhere!"
