My belief is, matter can neither be created, nor destroyed. Dust we are, and unto dust we will be converted, thanks to bacteria. Now, once we are dust, we will be converted into life again through plants and animals and back to humans through food chain. So you could say that is what those scriptures meant.
As to reincarnation, it is a concept invented to console people who are hurt badly and there is no remedy to that.

@joanreyes00 It really is an interesting question but no one can answer this. No matter how many theories people throw at you, how can they possibly know anyway? They are still among the living.
