Thumb Sucking

United States

Within the last few days my son started thumb sucking! He is almost 3 months old but I do not want him developing this habit. With a pacifier we can always toss it and break that habit but it is so much harder to break a thumb sucking habit. He has never taken or pacifier or a bottle he absolutely refused them but he certainly doesn't mind that thumb. For now I will enjoy the cuteness of it but I am going to find it less and less cute as the time goes on.

I just read an article that said that the thum was better than a pacifier. The article said that they outgrew it.

That is good to know. I have a friend whose son is 5 and still sucks his thumb and it has me nervous.

@farbuoloxusy Maybe that is not what the article meant. A boy who sucks his thumb at 5 might have a problem.

@marguicha Yeah I just over worry that it will be a hard habit to break.

I don't really want to give him a pacifier but hopefully we can break the thumb.

It gets more difficult to break this habit the longer it goes on.

Thankfully he isn't even three months old yet so hopefully jumping on it now will make it easier to get rid of.
