An Easy Death

My sister called and said her sister in law died last night. She had been sickly for awhile and in and out of the hospital. She said the lady's daughter helped her mother to get comfortable in bed and sat down quietly to read while her mother drifted off to sleep. After awhile she looked over at her mother and thought she didn't look quiet right. She walked over to the bed and saw that her mother wasn't breathing.
Her name was Annalee and my sister and I were talking about what a lucky lady her sister in law was. She wasn't in the hospital on life support having needles stuck in her and tubes running out of her body. She dropped off to sleep and died. She will be missed, but she passed out of life easily without pain. I hope we could all be so lucky.

When the time comes that is the way to go. My dad passed away in his sleep. He went to bed one night and never woke up. Mom found him in there morning. It was hard for us qtqo deal with because iqtq happened so suddenly and without warning but for him it was so peaceful, no suffering. The end of mom's life was much more difficult. May Annalee rest in peace.

My wife and I both have signed advance directives for not heroic measures to keep us "alive." I hope that they are honored.
