The Foods Were A Disappointment

The 50th wedding anniversary we attended last Saturday was so much fun.
I met lots of my town mates and the program was an enjoyable one . The mass was celebrated by two priests close to the family. One of them gave a wonderful homily and also a good narrative about the couple , them being with the church organization .
The band was wonderful . They sang those songs from the generation of the couple .
The foods were plentiful . It was an assisted buffet so our big plates have plenty of different foods. Hubby and I , refused the crab though , because we eat them with our hands when at home but not on that occasion .
But when I ate the meat dishes , they were tough to eat . I saw mother-in-law too almost didn’t touch her foods.
Good thing ,we got some stir fried noodles and there was a big plate of lechon at the center of our table . . So we ate those instead .
Then , I went to the salad counter and got ourselves two big plates of vegetable salad and other desserts . That made us full .
Had it not been for those two , we would have been hungry .
I know @salonga can relate because she posted a similar incident sometime ago .
Have you ever gone to a party and was disappointed with the foods ?

It is disappointing because the hosts really wish to do everything well...the caterers should have taken more care. What is lechon?

Lechon is a whole roasted pig . It's the most liked food in big gatherings here in the Phlippines .
Here's a picture of a lechon with the parts already chopped for the guests to get and eat at one of our fiesta celebration at our hometown .

I go to parties for the drinks. As long as it is an open bar with lots of booze, I'm a happy camper!

Well, if it is a party with lots of drink and those pica pica foods , i feel that way too .
But with this kind of occasion where there will be a program and music , foods are plentiful , it's a different thing , because people expects to eat not drink .

Is there a lechon there also ? Here , you can buy for kilo at the market place should you crave for it .
But you know , before going to that occasion , i told them that i hope there's a lechon . So , even if the other dishes were tough , i was happy because i get to eat lechon .
Oh my it's so delicious !

@SIMPLYD I was fond of lechon before , 20 years ago, but my taste has changed. I ate though when I was with my batch mates bonding but only a little. I don't want them to ask many questions and they might get hurt with my answers as most of them are crazy about lechon although prohibited by their doctors.

@rachz_kisses After the eating was listening to the oldies' music . None danced . But auntie tried to make her cousin dance with her when he came over to our table . But , he apologized that he doesn't dance anymore .

Glad that you managed to find something to eat or else it would have been very sad. I remember being invited to a wedding out of town and when we got there found out that we were not invited to the supper. There were many of us in that situation. I guess we didn't get all the details in our invitation. When we told the groom whom we knew well, he apologized and found us something to eat.

@SIMPLYD What happened is that some were invited to the supper and others for the reception but since the time mentioned on the invitation was at 5:30 PM, we all assumed that we were invited for supper and we had to travel for over an hour to get there which was strange that we would get no supper. There was definitely unclear information in the invitation! Anyway, it was a wedding and we made the most of it.

@1hopefulman 5:30 would really mean supper or dinner . So , what was the food prepared for - snacks only ?

Why did that happened ? Were you not in the guest lists , yet was given an invitation .
Indeed , when that happens you just have to tell the one who invited you . That will need no invitation anymore .
Good thing , you were given something to eat .

I am disappointed with the food most of the times at weddings. I have learned to eat a lot of appetizers so that when the meal comes I can leave uneaten the almost cold meat and the not so savoury side dishes.

@SIMPLYD I agree. It is better to have a smaller party if you don´t have the means for a big good one.

@marguicha I also like smaller parties with tasty food than the bigger parties with costly food that do not taste very well.

Really ? What could that bad smell be? Haven't the hosts known or smelled it ?
Actually , my being playful made me look like a teenager . It was my husband taking the pictures that's why . He took 3 pictures of us in that swing . It's my head's position that you can notice it's a different picture.

@sishy7 I think when it's really like that , the host should be notified because such would be a minus point for the gathering . That is sad , because it means the people might be hungry already .
Yes, that 's the term photogenic . I am just photogenic .

@SIMPLYD Yeah, I think some guests talked to the caterer or the host about it - but I was already not in the mood to eat anything...
Yes, I noticed the different pictures, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me at first when I saw the ones on your avatars...
You always look good on pictures anyway... I'm sure others may already told you that many times over before... what's the word for it - I think it's called photogenic...

Yes, that's her case , since they are health buffs .
But then in most occasions , the foods are usually of meats and it cannot be expected that they are greasy . Though , the host should have seen to it that there is a balance of the foods , like there should be veggies too to counteract the effect of the meats .

@SIMPLYD i think it is ain't fault of the caterer since they are really serving that kind of food. We should blame those who catered because they did not even consider the guests that they are not from the other country to be served with thay food.

If I am going to invite people I will ask what is their favorite foods and restaurants so I have the idea before inviting or announcing the party to make sure I could find caterers that could serve what they enjoy eating especially that I have friends with different religions. My Seventh Day Adventists (SDA) friends don't eat crab, shrimp, pork, etc. but it's my favorite. Celebrant must know what their guests do and don't eat. Do not invite Muslims and SDA if you want to serve pork.
I love crabs but I prefer eating it at home too.

Well, that could be tedious but workable specially when you will engage a caterer to do it . But if the budget is low , then maybe it would be safe to serve foods that can be eaten by all .
Guests also should expect if they have a different religion the religion of the one having the occasion . But if i were to be the host , i won't be serving crabs and shrimps because it could be difficult to eat since they have shells and need the help of the hand . In addition , they are expensive .

Oh that is bad indeed . I haven't been sick eating foods at parties yet and i hope i won't experience that .
And you are right some parties would let the guests eat after those programs and activities , that the guests are so hungry already .
