My grandson is doing a report on all the planets, so we did some research today, starting with the planet, Mercury.
We learned that Mercury is often called the “Sun Skimmer” since it is closest to the sun.
It only takes 87.97 days to orbit the sun and because it is so close to the sun, the average surface temperature is 340 F (171C) Now, that is really HOT.

That is extremely hot. The planets do amaze me sometimes. And with all the new discoveries they have made with finding new planets out there that are and could be like earth is way more interesting to me. I know that sometime in the future, we will become the alien race that is traveling through space to seek new worlds. Wish I could be around for that.

@IreneVincent I believe it is by chance. It is just right. And there are other planets in other solar systems that I am sure are the same as here.

@inertia4 It takes more FAITH to believe it was by chance than to believe that a Creator placed it there. The one chance in a quadruple billion chances, according to scientists. All the heavenly bodies are placed in exact spots in the Universe and they all move in harmony.
Think about all the constellations. These are even mentioned in the Bible.

The EXACT position of the EARTH to the sun has been studied to the point that scientists agree that if the Earth were moved in the slightest degree, there would be no life here.
Some believe its by chance. I believe that a Creator placed it in exactly the right spot.

Yes, I knew that info about Mercury. When I was a kid, I remember doing a project on the nine planets in either 4th or 5th grade. I remember it was one of those school projects I didn't mind doing because I had a fascination about the solar system and outer space. I still have that interest.

@IreneVincent Yes, the universe is so vast, only an all powerful God could have created it.

@LeaPea2417 I agree with you, "only an all powerful God could have created it." The Universe and all other things too.

The solar system and outer space are definitely interesting and fascinating subjects. I love astronomy. Scientific astronomers have discovered that there are billions of heavenly bodies out there in space. They have even confirmed that there are millions of galaxies containing billions of stars.

The normal 365 day year speeds by so fast, it seems to be a much shorter time. I don't know what I'd do if it were any shorter. Although, it doesn't matter that much, now that I'm retired. It just seems like I'm getting older faster.

@IreneVincent Mercure has a short revolution but a very slow rotation : a day on Mercure does not last 24 hours but 58 of our days. I think you would have the time to do a lot of things during 29 days of continuous light.

@topffer I didn't know that. We will have to do some more research. Interesting!

Now that's an idea I never thought about. I did read a really strange thing about the 365 days we have. I would love to post it here but its way too long and the writing belongs to someone else.
