I am so looking forward to when the weather turns cooler and we start taking our sweaters out of the closet. When we start planning warm meals to help keep us warm. Soups and stews are always so delicious when you have a cool wind blowing, snow on the ground and frost on the edges of your window panes. Time for me to stop dreaming, I live in Florida, we don't quite get the weather that is cold enough to frost over a window pane, at least not very often. Anyway, I found when my girls were little I could get them to eat plenty of vegetable by putting them into soups and stews. I love the mixing of the flavors and the healthiness of them. I can't wait to get a soup bubbling merrily on the stove. I will have to wait a bit longer for the weather to catch up with my longing for a nice hot soup.

I love constructing a good soup. The smell of it through the house. My grandmother always had a soup brewing on the back of the wood burning stove.

@marlina .....Oh, yes. I remember plenty of those days. And watching the storm out the back window.

@HazySue Like when I was growing up and the weather was lousy outside, I loved coming in the house and smelling the wonderful food cooking on the wood stove.

When we were snowed in up north a few years ago, the soup on the wood burning stove gave up such a feeling of comfort and coziness.

I did when I lived up north by Canada. Now that I am down here is Florida, I am afraid the I sweat way to much and get too hot to be able to enjoy it unless the weather is a whole lot cooler than it is here right now.

My dad made soup a lot while I was growing up. I'm not a soup person, but I will eat it if forced into it - no other choice available.

@HazySue He didn't make it a lot, but he did make it often during winter. The food I can't eat to this day is Spam - I can't even look at the can on the shelf without gagging. That's how much I had that growing up. Then there were the cheese sandwiches every day for school lunch. It took a long time for me to be able to eat a cheese sandwich and even now I prefer grilled cheese to a plain cheese sandwich.

It sounds like too much soup in the younger years. When I was a child, my mother made me eat a couple of apples a day. It's only been in the last 5 years or so that I can eat apples once more.

@just4him it's funny how we can develop an aversion to certain foods. I don't think they mean it, but many times family can overdo and make it a food to avoid.

We supposed to be moving towards summer but it is still as cold as charity here. Soup sounds wonderful.

"as cold as charity here" is this an expression in Australia? Never heard that one before.

@marlina It's a very old saying. I guess you don't hear it too much here any more really. It's one of those that just pops into your mouth without you thinking about it.

I am also looking forward to soup weather. I love potato chowders with lots of cheese, sour cream, and bacon in it. I also love regular chicken noodle and tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches. Vegetable soup is also good. I like adding a lot of cheese to all of my soups.
