Being we are in a hurricane emergency route we have a list of things to take with us and I wanted to share them in case anyone else has to evacuate too. full tank of gas, cash or travelers checks as the ATM might not work. Food, medicines for a few days, water, juice, portable can opener, eating utensils, paper plates, blankets and pillows, folding chairs if going to a shelter, change of clothes, personal hygiene items, portable radio with extra batteries, books to read or magazines, candles, flashlights. Telephone numbers for family members. Make sure cell phones are totally charged as power might be out for days.

It is. I am above Miami in Melbourne and we are going to the west coast to stay with a friend in New Port Richey. They are only suppose to get rain. I just hope we don't get much damage. We just moved here in May.

We took our important documents. We had no problem going but had a lot of traffic coming back yesterday.

@crazyhorseladycx A lot of tree limbs went down and we have a big pile in the front of our house waiting for the town to pick them up. Not bad at all.

This is a good list. Do you wait to be advised to evacuate or do you decide it's time to go? And where will you go? Sorry for so many questions but I'm really interested.

We left before we were told to as we knew the traffic would be bad if we waited.

Praying you'll be safe through the storm. Its suppose to give us high winds Friday ( western NC) a different story though for our eastern part of the state.

It is very helpful information for anyone without having the experience of a hurricane. It is very similar to other disasters that one needs to get prepared for. Thanks for the informative thread. Take care, friend.
