My youngest daughter is a huge Shopkins fan. When I found some Shopkins decorated party supplies at the dollar store, I decided to throw her a Shopkins themed party for her birthday. The trickiest part was the cake. Fortunately I got some ideas from the Nerdy Nummies YouTube show for making a Queen Cupcake Shopkins cake. I used a cupcake shaped cake pan to make the giant cupcake and colored some fondant samples I had gotten from Michaels to make the crown, bow, and shoes (I printed the eyes and mouth on cardstock rather than trying to dye fondant black). It turns out that I gave the crown too much of a curve, so we had to set it on top instead of perching it a bit lower on the brow. I wasn't sure what to serve for food, but discovered that there's a taco Shopkins character -- so a taco bar seemed perfect! I printed out pictures of Shopkins that went along with the food we were serving (Cherry Tomato, Terrie Taco, Kris P Lettuce, etc.) to use as food signs. I also had fruit, veggies, and pretzels as side items. I could have purchased a Shopkins designed tablecloth and decorated cups as well, but decided that less was more and used brightly solid colored ones from the dollar store instead. We also had some pink, yellow, and aqua streamers on hand that I used to decorate the party room. I think it all worked out pretty well!

I'm sure your daughter would have loved her themed birthday. We don't have Shopkins here as far as I know.

They're starting to get internationally popular, so you may see them eventually. They're collectable figurines that look like French fries or lipstick or apples or shoes or hair dryers, etc. with cute eyes and smiling faces.

Thanks! It was a little fiddly, getting all of the details right. Having the cake pan shaped like a giant cupcake helped a lot. If I hadn't had one, I might have done a different character. I've seen a lot of Shopkins related cake ideas on Pinterest.

They're a big deal among elementary school aged girls.
