How diverse is this? A countdown of favorites by the legendary punk band the Clash and a countdown of favorites by certified honky tonk great Dale Watson!? My brother won't ride in the car with me: he's not afraid of my driving, he's afraid of my iPod! Here's the next song in my Dale Watson countdown.
#4: Carryin' On This Way
Some people preach to others (or at others) in songs. Dale had a live album released overseas called Preachin' to the Choir. But in this great song, he's preaching to himself.
When he does this song live he mentions that he wrote this shortly after his 40th birthday ("crashing into 40, might better think about growing up"). The song is about a man looking himself in the mirror -- literally ("then I look up in the mirror just to get me one more good look at you") and assessing what he's doing. He's not happy with what he's doing ("Man, you can't be as dumb as you look, it ain't too late to make a change") and reminds himself that he should "get down off your high horse, ain't nobody listening to what you say."
Another great mid-tempo song from Dale, with a lot of good wisdom in the lyrics.

These days a honky tonk singer is a "punk" in today's sanitized country world.

At 40, I had the same thought. 12 years later, I think I can safely say that it ain't gonna happen.

Well, you know what they say: if you haven't grown up by the time you hit 50 you don't have to!!!!!
