Pop goes the corn

A rather corny title I'm afraid but I just could not resist the pun. When we were children popcorn used to be painstakingly prepared at home by heating the corn grains bought at the local grocery shop over a hot stove in an iron vessel. Not all the kernels would pop but we would wait around the stove fascinated by the process. This was a looked forward to snack in the winters when we would sit around a log fire in the courtyard. When my kids were growing up, thankfully there was the easier option of prepackaged popcorn which we would put in the microwave. These bowls of warm and buttery snack were a favourite with the neighbourhood kids. They are the staple of every fair and movie shows. A large scale popcorn machine which I have just found out (from Wikipedia) was invented by Charles Cretors in the late 19th century. A popcorn stall always makes brisk sales. Very rarely have I seen a person coming out of a fair ground without a packet of popcorn. Do you like popcorn? Any special flavour? A popcorn quote: “Have you ever pondered the miracle of popcorn?
