"Time heals all wounds"

Does everyone here agree with the saying "Time heals all wounds" ? Or are there some mistakes that are unforgivable? I have had a few experiences that I have forgiven the person but I still have not forgotten what was done to me. Can that be considered as a healed wound? And there are other mistakes that are just very petty and small that it's just very easy to forgive and forget right then and there. Let me know what you think.

Time doesn't heal all wounds. In my opinion time makes wounds easier to deal with. The wound is still there but over time it gets easier.

I like what you said there, Mike. That does make a lot of sense. Thanks for the input!

@mikalf Just my experience after losing my mum. Still pretty raw after 7 years or so but easier than the first year.

@Mike197602 Sorry to hear about your mum. And I do agree with that definitely. It still hurts but not as painful as it was when it just happened.

If you can truly forgive someone, it's not the time that healed the wound. It was your forgiveness. For some people it might take years to finally forgive someone. For others, they forgive the moment the event happens. Rare. But it happens. Time can heal a wound if you forget and/or as time passes the hurt and pain decreases. But that does not always happen.

@mikalf - It's not so much the mistake as whether or not you want to break ties with that person. That's why it says “love covers a multitude of sins”. But, speaking as a disciple of Christ, to take it a step further … our example is Jesus. He was being nailed to the cross and asking for those who delivered Him up to be forgiven. So! If anybody thinks they have an excuse to hold back on forgiveness, they really don't. Not IF they compare themselves with Jesus. The quicker you can forgive someone, the sooner you can go on with your own life. Also, carrying that hurt and anger around is really a huge burden on you. Keep in mind that forgiveness doesn't necessarily change the person who is forgiven or anything that the person has done. They may likely turn around and do what they did again or do something even worse. We forgive men their trespasses so that our heavenly Father will forgive us. That may sound like selfish reasons but since it will keep me out of hell fire, I forgive and move on. We are discussing matters of eternity. If the wrongdoer doesn't want to repent, I let God deal with him or her. It's out of my hands. You can only save your own soul. You can't save nobody else. When it comes to Christianity, your own soul salvation hangs on whether or not you forgive the sins of others just like Jesus did. It's the difference between heaven and hell.

It depends on the mistake that was made, right. That's what makes it easy or difficult to forgive and/or forget.

@cmoneyspinner Well, sometimes you don't decide if you want to keep that person in your life. You just have to do it because of what he/she did. So it really depends on the mistake that was done. But as always, it depends on the person and the situation one is in. So one case will differ from the other. And I agree with what you said about Jesus. We all should learn and know how to forgive. I was not saying that we shouldn't forgive. I was asking if Time does help in Healing Wounds. Forgiving someone for a mistake done is not being questioned.

Well in some ways time heals all wounds , like those brothers who are not in speaking terms with each other . But after many years when they saw each other again , they simply just hugged and cried . Though i agree that one can forgive but will never forget what was done . That happened to me too .

I can learn from my errors like taking up script writing for W G Ventures who is working on a show called "Wordgirl Advance" after I found a job working for Niume as a blogger writing about sports and super hero shows.

If it doesn't hurt when you remember it...that is when the wound is healed. People say forgiveness is necessary if you want to let go ..however i think it is good not to completely forget...since it will help one to not repeat the mistake again.

That's a good way to look at it, Manisha. I keep hearing from other people that I should forget as I forgive. But sometimes, I just can't forget. Haha!

Time helps me forget things. I don't believe in holding on to something hurtful, rather move on to something exciting.

Those who have survived the holocaust and other horrendous things probably would not agree. How could these events be forgotten? Even as we consider the mistreatment of some humans now, we could not expect everyone to believe time will make the difference.

Oh of course not! I was thinking of personal daily things as the mistakes mentioned here. Those are in a whole different league.
