I (Still) Love NKOTB

Yep, I kind of got my title off the shirt I bought from Etsy several months ago lol. It's not the one I'm wearing in the picture above though lol. Okay, so I have made posts about things I enjoy, such as family time, wrestling and writing. But this time I want to make a post about those five guys from Boston who captured my heart over two decades ago - the New Kids On The Block. I am basically a lifelong fan of the NKOTB, as I became a fan when I was just four years old. I’m not really sure when it happened, but my older sister was a fan as well, so I’m sure that’s how I heard them. The most I remember from being THAT young was pointing out Jordan Knight on a poster. Yep, I had my first crush when I was just knee-high thanks to Jordan Knight’s existence lol. ;) Growing up, I listened to the cassette tapes all the time (and eventually the CDs lol), and I remember my parents renting the VHS tapes of their concerts for me. I had the shirts, slippers, at least one hat, buttons (which I may have confiscated from my older sis lol), Fashion Plates (I’m dead serious), trading cards, books and I don’t even remember what else. Oh, and let’s not forget the fact that I just HAD to watch the New Kids On The Block cartoon. :) I had eye surgery three times growing up (my eyes are fine now) - and I was seven-years-old when I had my second surgery done. I was allowed to take something with me for comfort; to take into the operating room until I was asleep (because looking back, I assume they gave it to my parents once I was out) --- I chose this big button of the NKOTB. Yep, that was my idea of taking something for comfort into the operating room. I had an earbud in when I got my flu shot yesterday, played “Stingy” by Jordan Knight (featuring Donnie Wahlberg) --- the more things change, the more they stay the same. I cannot remember much of my reaction when they broke up, but let’s be real, I wasn’t exactly a happy camper. Let’s not forget the fact that I hadn’t been able to see them in concert because we didn’t have that kind of money, and plus I was probably too young. I mean, I was 9 when they disbanded. I eventually got into other bands and other things, such as WWE, growing up. I spent some of my teenage years recording songs off the radio, and this includes Jordan Knight’s solos “Give It To You” and “I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man,” plus Joey Mac’s solos “I Love You Came Too Late” and “Stay The Same.” Without even realizing it, they always remained in my heart even when they had disbanded, and even when I had other things going on. I can’t remember much from their reunion because, well, my memory is crummy at times. I do remember watching them perform with BSB on New Year’s Eve several years ago, and I LOVED it. Did I mention that I made my nieces listen to my NKOTB’s Greatest Hits CD several years ago lol? Unfortunately over the years, I focused so much on going to WWE events, I missed out on several chances to catch NKOTB, Jordan’s “Unfinished” tour and Nick and Knight’s tour. I’m going to be very honest with you, I’m kicking myself for that now. I don’t regret focusing on WWE, the experiences and friends I made were amazing, but you all better believe that I’m paying attention to both WWE -AND- NKOTB from now on. Exactly two months ago from today, probably around this time, I was rocking out at my first ever NKOTB concert. My best friend and I traveled from Baltimore, MD to Hershey, PA to attend the Mixtape Festival, and they were my main reason for going. They were AMAZING, and I knew as soon as I walked out of that stadium that I HAD to see them again. I’m ready to stay on top of things so please bring on the 2017 tour. :) Since August, I have followed all of them on social media, caught up to their more recent stuff and watched both seasons of Rock This Boat: NKOTB online. I’ve had many favorite musicians/groups over the years - ‘N Sync, Backstreet Boys, Constantine Maroulis and Linkin Park to name a few - but I think without even realizing it, NKOTB -ALWAYS- remained my favorite. I found a shirt on NKOTB’s official website that said “A True Love Story Never Ends” - and it couldn’t be more fitting for this story. I know this was lengthy, and I honestly forgot I was writing it for MyLot lol. I just started and let everything pour out. I’m planning to tweet this to the guys, so if by the very long shot they come across this, thank you guys for being a big part of my life. Don’t you EVER stop being amazing. I've heard of them but wasn't much of a fan, was more of Backstreet boys and linking park or group that Justin Timberlake was on. Your story proves that you were a real fan.

Linkin Park is a rock band, but also one of my favorites. :) New Kids On The Block is Danny, Donnie, Joe, Jon and Jordan. Justin was actually my favorite in 'N Sync, while Howie and AJ were my faves of BSB, and Drew was my favorite of 98 Degrees. While I love all the NKOTB, I'm definitely a Jordan Knight Girl, with Donnie Wahlberg not too far behind, but I love 'em all of course. :) I'm not sure where I was going with all this, I just saw all the bands mentioned lol.

When I was a kid growing up, I kept hearing some of the older girls talking about New Kids On The Block, but I never seen a picture of them and if I did I didn't know it was them. I remember hearing Hangin Tough and of course The Right Stuff, but the weird thing is I remember the dance move that they did for The Right Stuff more than the music and I'm pretty sure you know which dance move I'm talking about. lol. In 2017, I just got into a few of their songs. Even though, to me they are a little cheesy they are really really addicting. lol. I like Hangin' Tough and The Right Stuff, but I really like If You Go Away. That's a pretty song. I watched a show that told the back story of New Kids On The Block and it was interesting. Because I didn't know who was in the group, I didn't know Donnie Wahlberg was in the group and I also realized that he was Marky Mark that did Good Vibrations, Mark Wahlberg's brother. And that their manager used to manage New Edition. It was very interesting.

Oh I definitely know "The Right Stuff" dance - the guys STILL do it at concerts haha. They got back together in 2008, you should definitely listen to their newer stuff if you haven't already, especially from their album "10" and their "Thankful". "The Block" was a good album too, but I think I like "10" the best of the two (and "Thankful" came out last year). It's all a bit different from their older stuff. Yeah, I didn't realize until I got back into the group full force that Jordan and Jon deal with anxiety. I was 9 when they broke up so I didn't know about the behind-the-scenes stuff. Jon dealt with it the worst, but has really come out of his shell. I don't know if you watch it, but Donnie is also Danny Reagan on Blue Bloods. :) Yeah, a lot of fans wanna see NKOTB and New Edition tour together. They toured with Paula Abdul and Boyz II Men last year.

@BohoGirl My notifications expired so I legit went thru my posts tagged with "NKOTB" so I could find this lol. I didn't know Jordan or Jon had anxiety until a few years ago. Long ago, way before their reunion, they were on Oprah, and you could see Jon was trying to fight back a panic attack....and I just wanted to hug him. :( BUT, he's doing a lot better now, it's like he's more relaxed and has come out of his shell. :) Donnie's insane. He does NKOTB, Blue Bloods AND Wahlburgers lol. But NKOTB tour every other year, so that probably helps him (well, that, and he has his own plane). I'm surprised NKOTB and NE haven't toured together yet; they did the song "Full Service" together. Oh I had no idea NE discovered Boyz II Men. I understand; I went to Mixtape in 2016 just ready to hear the older songs and wound up enjoying the newer ones a lot. :) It's cool that you listen to different types of music. My other favorite band is Linkin Park; not at all the same music as NKOTB. Unfortunately, we lost the lead singer of LP last year, but that's another story. :( Just curious, do you have a favorite from NKOTB? Mine is Jordan and Donnie, but I do like 'em all. :) And it's cool, I never mind chatting with other NKOTB fans! I just need to get to my notifications before they expire (they disappear after a week, and you have to go find them yourself lol). Have a good week! :)

@tammys85 I knew Jon dealt with anxiety but I didn't know Jordan did. I must not have paid attention as closely as I should have to the behind the scenes like I thought I did. Well, it has been over a year since I seen it. I think. And yep, I know Donnie is in Blue Bloods, I don't watch it but I know him and his brother act now. Also, I seen in the behind the scenes New Edition and New Kids On The Block meeting a couple of times. I wouldn't be surprised if they toured together. Plus, I'm not surprised they toured with Boyz II Men since Mike from New Edition was the one that discovered Boyz II Men and started managing them. I'm not sure if Mike still manages them though. He probably still does. I'll see about NKOTB's new stuff but I think I still want to look at some of their old stuff first. Then I'll probably get around to their new stuff. When it comes to boy groups or bands. I'm more of a Savage Garden and Hanson fan. I listen to some of NKOTB. I haven't felt like listening to NSYNC or Backstreet Boys. I don't know I used to like them, but I just don't feel excited to listen to their music at the moment. And I got into listening to New Edition and I also liked the New Edition movie. It was pretty funny and entertaining. That's how I knew Mike discovered Boyz II Men who I also love. Anyway, my response is getting too long. lol. I must limit myself to not take up half the page when I'm responding. lol.

I'm glad you had such a good time at that concert and have gotten back to catching up and keeping up with them. I've been so far behind on my notifications I didn't realize the Mixtape Concert was two months ago already. Wow! Time flies when we're having fun.

@tammys85. You got the right stuff and I hope that is the right title. When they first came out it was fans nonstop. I got so many favorite wrestlers like the attitude era and wrestling back in the 80's. Who is your favorite wrestler?
