Hello All,
I am a content writer and have been doing this for 3 years now. I wish to revise my rates of working with the clients but am in a fix as to how much should I ask as a per word price from the clients.
I have written over 1000 articles, web page content, blog posts and other type of creative content and have a good command over English. I charge 35p per word (INR 350 per 1000 words) right now.
If anyone is an experienced content writer here, can you please guide me so as to how much I should ask? (It would be the best if some Indian content writer can enlighten me because mostly my clients are Indians)
P.S: I am looking for international clients too, so a quote in USD per word would also be highly appreciated. Also, any sites where I can find good clients??
Looking forward to some enlightening answers from this helpful community!!
Peace!!

@ashish2593 I wish I could get paid 35 cents a word. I would give up all other activities and just write.

Hi @akalinus. I was mentioning the payment in INR (Indian Rupees) and not USD. 35 cents would have been a great price to be honest.
What I am looking for is the current rates at which freelance writers having experience similar to mine work.

@akalinus I know. It would be great. So, where do you work? I mean what platform you use other than Upwork?
What is the max you make per word?

Did you try Upwork? It is a site where people offer writing jobs. You negotiate with the one wanting the work done, or accept their going rate. You choose your assignments and the date you will have it by. Some offer good jobs and others want you to write a novel for a nickel. I have done articles for a client there.

@ashish2593 I'm sorry. I thought Upwork was interenational.

Upwork does not accept writers from India. I tried registering but they denied me.
I have used other platforms like Upwork but the price there is quite less.

Im not a content writer but l do outsource quite alot and from experience i will say this.
1- A client hires you for a 1 time job and pays $20 for a 1000 word
2- A client hires you and pays $5 for a 1000 word but needs 50-100 articles or more, what do you think is better?
It`s not always about the money,do a good work and you will have long term clients.
I do outsource, l don't pay the highest price around but then l do need 10,15------ contents every month. As long as my freelancer is doing a good job, l don't have a reason to change.
In the end,it`s a win-win for both of us.
Do the same, look for long term clients through your good job and you are more in profit than writing for high price and waiting for a month or longer before you get a single client.
Outsourcing is over crowded, there are more people offering jobs than there are jobs,so keep your price down and try to hold on to the clients you have.
This is my opinion

I have been doing the same as you have said for the past 3 years. I have a few very good clients with whom I have been working for over a year now.
However, I have just moved from being a student to a full time professional. So, I do not have the time to work on 10 15 articles a month. Thus, for now, writing a few articles with higher price tags works better for me. My experience is good with content and I am sure I can handle high paying articles in terms of quality.
Is there any source you're aware of that pays on the higher end? Do share.
