what makes one want to rape a child?

in the evening news I saw the case of a woman who was working in the post office and left her child with the door-man while she was at the office. that animal took advantage of her 8 year old child. I don't want to imagine what a traumatic experience this was but it made me wonder what makes one want to take advantage of a child?

@swissheart In the short term yes but (in UK law anyway) they get out.
I've worked with these people in the past and my opinion is they don't change so will always remain a danger to children.
I've not heard of any really successful treatment that removes the risk so I think I'm an advocate of life sentences for these people purely to protect children.

@Jenning I think they shouldn't blame others for their own wicked deeds. They are fully responsible for their action and deserved to be punished.
