What is the impression when you see the word "castle"?
Do you think of beautiful, magnificent buildings like shown in Disney Pictures or movies?
I am always fascinated when i see the word "castle".
I feel excited and look forward to visiting castles.
My Geography is bad. So, yesterday while I was chatting on mylot, I met a new friend @seldom from Albania. I didn't know where is Albania so I googled it.
According to Google:
Albania, on Southeastern Europe’s Balkan Peninsula, is a small country with Adriatic and Ionian coastlines and an interior crossed by the Albanian Alps. The country has many castles and archaeological sites.
So I asked @seldom if it is true that there are many castles in Albania since she lives there. Her reply was interesting. She said that Google say right thing but she didn't notice that things in such way, never think like castles for pile of rocks..
That caught me thinking.. perhaps those castles are so old and not maintained they are no longer in shape...
Are there castles where you live?
Can you share how do the castles look like now? Are they just piles of rock by now? Are they still in good shape?
Are abandoned castles still castles in your perspective? Castles are supposed to be nice and grandeur right? What do you think?

We have several palaces in India..they are being maintained so they still look decent.
I do find them quite majestic...though i wish the people who were in-charge of the places didn't keep so much restrictions.
This picture that i have added is Bangalore Palace...it is the closest to my place.

@XinfulThotz I think the castles are mainly built with big stones or rocks. They are stronger and they can last for a long time.

There are several castles in Denmark. One of them (Nyborg Castle) is close to my home and I visited it a few weeks ago. Most of the original building doesn't exist anymore, but there is a small part left. The rooms are almost empty because the Swedish soldiers stole/destroyed almost everything. I plan on writing a post about the castle

We never really had castles in the US. There were large estates like Mount Vernon where George Washington (our first Pres.) lived, but no real castles.

@XinfulThotz My wife has, when she was teaching in Turkey and Germany. She visited England, Egypt, India, Afghanistan and many other countries. I do recall visiting a castle in Italy when I was there some years back.

I see. I think there are more castles in those colonial countries? where there is practice of Kings and Queens and governance are passed down through royal families??
Anyway, have you visited any castle before? like maybe when you go travelling?

There is 3 castles in France, Europe, and Ireland, U.K. There is some in Germany, in Spain, in Japan, and for the rest like where I live if there is some they are not as beautiful as the one in France. I never saw them in real life, but someday,,,,,,
