Last month my husband and I decided that we should start collecting bottles and cans to earn money. We went to a redemption center on Friday and made $8.75 by collecting cans, plastic bottles and glass bottles. With this money we bought 2 packs of spaghetti, a loaf of bread, 2 packs of frozen veggies and 3 cans of beans. We made spaghetti and meat balls that night. $8.75 doesn't seem like much but it sure can feed you. Do you recycle? If not would you?

I have recycled for many years. Those dimes and nickels add up.

They really do! I live in ny and every where you go there's bottles laying on the ground, so that's 5-10c for every time I see a bottle. Sometimes I see bags of bottles in the garbage I guess it's those people who have no idea those bottles are worth something and maybe at their home they have a special garbage can for bottles. I always take them lol

@Judy890 In California, you pay CRV on containers and the only way to redeem that fee is to recycle. People pay that recycle fee then don't recycle to get that nickel back!

Yes we recycle bottles for money. Glass we don't have much so we recycle in the recycle bin for the government to collect.
That is nice you were able to use the money toward food! :)

Mostly, I just save all the containers we use. So that is just getting back the deposit I paid.
I do pick up cans/bottles on our road when I walk or cycle. But that is very few. The bottle depots here are mystery shopped, so I get paid a fee for doing the mystery shop.

Oregon now charges ten cent per bottle and can so I cash them in all the time. When it was a nickle I got $20 for four bags of cans. And bought stuff that we were out of.

Yes, I used to do this with my mom at my parents' place. We collect plastic & glass bottles, egg cartons, boxes, white paper and newspaper. Then, someone from the junk shop drops by to buy them.

That is so cool how much you made and what you could buy for it. We have a machine at the supermarket I go to. I do not make that much but I do it.

I recycle and get paid for it. You could read my posts on this topic.
