Reading T.R's post brought to mind the famous James Herriot,Veterinary surgeon and author.I love his books and can read them over and over again. They are so comforting and down to earth.Wish there were more writers like him.
All things Bright and Beautiful,All creatures great and small, All things Wise and Wonderful,The good God/lord made them all. Unfortunately I haven't seen the TV adaptation of ALL creatures Great and Small.
Have you seen the TV series? Was it as good as the book?

@LadyDuck I did see something that said you can read them free online. That is not my thing. I gave some of my Herriot books to the thrift store. I wish I had not because they are becoming rare. I hope you get to read it. He lived and worked in the UK so it is international. Do you have libraries in Switzerland?

I love James Herriot's books. That was not his real name. It was James Alfred Wight and Herriot was his pen name. I especially love his dog stories.
Do you remember Venus being swung through the air to get her breathing again? She belonged to the barber who felt messages by touching people's hair. He touched the dog and said she was flying through the air. I think he sort of embellished some of his stories.
His stories are warm-hearted and funny. I truly love them and like to reread them. I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was a kid.

@jennyjoy Not the part where her owner could read her thoughts by touching her hair. He also knew all the secrets of people who came into the barber shop by reading their thoughts through their hair. This guy had quite an imagination. I loved his quirky characters as much as the animal stories.

@akalinus That is a lotta far fetched but we enjoyed it anyways. The way he described the Yorkshire Dales, the life of the small holding farmers and his dealings with them, still make me smile. The drafy sheds on cold winter nights with the buckets of near freezing water and the small slither of soap.

I read the books and yes the TV version is very good - there were two films based on the books too in the 1970's

@jennyjoy It was okay. Rather dated by today's viewing.
