Super music geek @teamfreak16 started a series of discussions dealing with his ten favorite songs with "girl" (or some variation) in the title, and I just had to join in. Here's the next song on my countdown of favorite "girl" songs. #4: Cynical Girl - Marshall Crenshaw Everything I said about Squeeze yesterday? Multiply it by ten for Marshall Crenshaw. A friend of mine declares that Crenshaw's 1982 self-titled debut is "the most perfect pop album in history." And who am I to disagree? For those of you who think you've never heard of Marshall Crenshaw...if you saw the movie La Bamba, Crenshaw played Buddy Holly. Now, on to this song. What a superb piece of great "roots rock" (before that came to mean pseudopunks trying to make rockabilly music and failing miserably). As my friend said, just a perfect pop song from an era that desperately needed something other than disco. I've seen Crendshaw twice, both times with the Bottle Rockets opening then backing him. Pure musical happiness from start to finish. When he's not touring he hosts a weekly music radio show called The Bottomless Pit, showcasing his vast music tastes and his knowledge. Cynical Girl Written by Marshall Crenshaw Recorded by Marshall Crenshaw From Marshall Crenshaw, 1982 Lost in love and having some fun:

That was certainly an 80s flashback.

I love that one and always forget about that. I wish classic rock stations would play that one more. Hardly ever hear that one.
