Fall is here and the flowers are slowly dying off. My neighbor's morning glories are still going strong, though, as are my other neighbor's four o-clocks. Isn't it a little funny how we named these flowers after the time of day they bloom? Have you ever thought about that? Do you have a favorite flower that only blooms at certain times of the day (or night)?

Night-blooming jasmine is one of my very, very favorite smells in the entire universe! Unfortunately, it won't grow where I currently live. It is almost reason enough to move. I've tried growing it indoors but jasmine doesn't like being confined. It wants to be out in the world. Sadly, most humans would rather be indoors. And consequently they have never experienced the divine scent of jasmine in its natural state. My ultimate fantasy is to live in a place where jasmine thrives and to plant it all around me. This, to me, is heaven.

I so agree! Aside from the sky and water, there is nothing in-between as blue as a blue morning glory.

Sometimes I have fantasized about traveling back and forth between the northern and southern hemispheres so that I can avoid winter. I've also wondered what it would be like to live in Bali, which is right on the equator and has no winter. But now that I'm an old fart I'm not so much into traveling anymore. And I've also come to realize that a little contrast is nice. If it was summer all the time I'd probably get tired of it. After so many years I'm finally starting to make peace with winter. One of the worst things about winter, of course, is the lack of flowers. I am very thankful for my houseplants that bloom.
