When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a famous singer and the next Britney Spears. I use to take my toy microphone and put all my teddy bears and dolls on the couch like they were my audience and I would lip sync Britney spears to them like I'm on stage. I never got to be a famous singer instead I am a part time day care attendant and cashier.

You're going to get a good laugh at this, but when I was little, I wanted to be a statue when I grew up! My parents still tease me about that to this day!

@Judy890 Thanks! Maybe when I retire from my current job, I'll go back to pursuing a second career as a statue!

I always loved animals. I wanted to be a veterinarian. Then I wanted to be a writer. School discouraged me from vet school, said it is not a job for women. Now, the majority of vets are women. Go figure.

@akalinus Some teachers do an amazing job of telling children what they can never achieve! I used to write a lot, but never went to my teachers for approval. Personally, I don't like vetting others' creations too. The critic in me is very efficient, and that can cause negative reactions.

I do notice many women are vets. That's very disappointing that your school discouraged you from being a veterinarian. I think everyone should support and encourage everyone to do what they want. I was discouraged as well In high school when I told my teachers two students that I wanted to pursue a career in art and they told me there was no such thing. But years later I realized there's art al around us. In Clothing, games, magazines, posters, cups and everything you can think of. If there's no career then whose designing those cups or magazine, clothes or the games? Obviously an artist. I still draw from time to time but I felt like those two students are the main reasons I didn't go to college and get a degree in art graphic designing. I see many jobs that are looking for graphic designers and I regret not going to college.

@hora_fugit I am going to a writer's meeting tomorrow. Some people always read something for critique from the group. I hate pointing out things but that is what we are there for. I always say something good first and end up on a positive note. I still don't like it, though.

I wanted to be a servant. Thought they were very hardworking. That's the earliest recollection I have about my aspirations. Later wanted to be a mathematician and was serious about it, till I was introduced to computer programming...

Actually I'm not. I gave up on my real dream job years ago because I was told by a few people that there wasn't a career in the art field and these people made me believed that. Years later when I became an adult I realize it was false. I mean I'm ok with what I am doing now but I its a bit too late now to work on my dream job.

I wasn't any good in art either until I kept practicing all the time. I eventually got better and you can actually see big differences in my drawings if you did a comparison from two different years.
