Panic at the gas station!

When my daughter and family realized they had to evacuate Charleston, SC, she along with many others, headed to one of the few service stations that still had gas. She waited her turn in the long line (about 30 minutes), finally got up to the pump and realized the gas tank was on the other side of the truck. There was an opening in the lane beside her, so she quickly pulled along side the pump. A woman got out of her car and proceeded to cuss and yell at my daughter for "cutting in line." My daughter calmly told her that she wasn't cutting in line, she had already waited her turn. By then, people were gathering to see what the yelling was all about. With everyone in a panic, I'm sure thankful the woman didn't pull out a gun! My daughter is polite up to a point, but you really don't want to push her but so far. She informed the woman she would be through in just a minute and was soon on her way. Trouble is, for some unknown reason, the gas stopped pumping too early and the truck was only half full! My daughter had to go around and wait in line all over again. There's a time for everything under the sun and I guess when a hurricane's coming, it's Panic Time.

Some people have no patience and jump to conclusions. That is frustrating, especially in that situation!

Everyone was afraid the gas would run out so I guess it's understandable.

I know they were worried about getting out of town, but no excuse to get ugly.

Too many are ready to criticize the others and start an argument where there is nothing to talk about.

Thanks, if you knew my daughter, patience is not her greatest virtue! Thankfully she held it together.

How awful for her. Too many people go crazy and panic at times like that. Years ago we had a gas crisis and most stations were closed. The others had long lines. I was always afraid they would run out of gas before it was my turn.

It really can be a concern, not knowing if you'll have enough gas to escape whatever is happening.

Your daughter was right, but I can see why the other person was upset because they weren't thinking it through. These days you never know what a disgruntled person might do.
