...but are you sure that words will never hurt you? Yes, I'm sure many have heard this saying countless times but are we really sure that words will never hurt us? From the experiences in life and also through observations, I find that it isn't true that words will not hurt us, it's just a matter of how much impact, whether good or bad, it depends on how close our level of relationship is with the person who says it, or even sometimes don't say it but body language does speak volumes tooWell, at least that's my opinion. So what are your thoughts?

I agree, I think words can hurt much worse than sticks and stones. We can recover, most of the time, from physical injuries, but words can hurt for a life time.

Often times the impact from words can even be more detrimental and leave more scars than we can imagine

@enlightenedpsych2 That's true, but when hurtful words are spoken by people we care about, especially parents, those words can wound for years.

@1creekgirl @enlightenedpsych2 That's why I think I did mention somewhere that it depends on the people. The ones closest to us has the most impact and also because we are more open to them thus having our guard down, that's why we are more vulnerable.

I never believed that saying. I was teased a lot growing up by other kids and my father was generally a pretty negative person . . . so I know words can hurt - a lot sometimes.

We shouldn't allow words to hurt us, but they do. Recently a gal at my church has been talking bad about me to others, who in turn have told me what she said....and she did say some of the words to me too. If I think about her words and feelings too much then I end up crying.

I agree. I think sometimes words can damage a person more than physical injury.

That is why we must always be careful and think through of what we are going to say...

Words can hurt as bad as swords in my opinion

Yes, they can cut very deeply. In fact they are double edge swords - they can either build you or tear you apart
