Unusual shaped postcards

Circular postcard

While on holiday in Lloret De Mar last week I chanced upon many racks of postcards, which is not unusual for holiday resorts. However, while cutting through the side streets to reach the promenade I came upon a selection that really surprised me. As you can see by the scan above, these were not the standard rectangular postcards. Oddly enough Lany had mentioned a circular postcard only a few days previously, but I had never seen one before. There was only a small selection on offer, although they did attract quite a bit of attention from other passers by while I was looking through them. I wonder how many people have spend many hours at seaside resorts and never seen any such unusual examples of postcards. Of course the one problem with round postcards is trying to locate the upper right hand corner in order to affix the postage stamp. A few days later I discovered yet another selection of unusual format postcards, so I may post an example of those tomorrow.

I did find a couple in Blackpool that had a rectangular format but the top was crenelated. They were the only ones I had ever seen before.

That's quite odd to see circular postcards. Do they cost higher than the rectangular ones?

@Ayuriny It may be the fact that there is a greater choice among standard formats that makes me critical.

They were slightly dearer, but nothing significant. Overall the pricing was very good.

@Asylum ....Oh. You didn't like them enough to get a few extras? That's a shame.

@celticeagle I consider that postcards should be mailed from their origin, so these need to be posted and therefore postmarked from Lloret De Mar. Since I was only there for one week there seemed little point in buying many.

I have never come across any postcards that were shaped differently from the normal rectangle shaped ones. I think it would really catch my attention to find one that is circular, or otherwise oddly shaped. And then, I would just have to buy it because of it's unique shape!

@moffittjc I was seriously tempted to place the stamp in the middle, but resisted the temptation.

@Asylum Then whoever thought of the round postcard is a genius! Except I agree with you in one respect...where do you put the postage stamp?

Lany had only mentioned recently about finding a round postcard in Moulin Rouge. Needless to say I was very happy to find these.

@Jeanniemaries It is a pity that Florida is not downhill from Spain because I could have rolled it downhill to you.

Handy for tangential discussion, though, a circular postcard.

So the post office allows oddly shaped post cards? I wonder how they handle them, since everything is automated now.

I can appreciate your point, but of course they do handle a myriad of mixed shapes among letters and parcels. I do know that the British Post Office insists on standard formats to qualify for the postcard rate, so I suspect that sending a circular one would incur a higher cost. In Spain the cost was the same as a rectangular postcard.

@CoolPeace Something so simple as changing the shape makes a tremendous difference to the overall effect, so it seems strange that I have not seen something like this before.
