We all will go through a serious illness for loved ones sometimes in our lives. Sometimes we will encounter diseases or medical issues we know nothing about. I encountered this when my mom had a stoke along with Alzheimer's. I knew nothing about either one as I never knew anyone that had either of these diseases. I searched all over for different answers as the best way to make things easier for my mom and the rest of the family. I will post some ideas on dealing with both of these diseases. It would be to long to make this in one big post. After searching the internet for days on end, I found quite a few sites that kept me going and informed for both. The Alzheimer's was the worst as the patient changes almost everyday and we never knew what issue we were going to have to deal with. In one way, it was a good thing mom had the stroke as that kept her in a wheel chair for the duration which ended up being 6 long years. My dad would never be able to handle her if she was not bound to the wheel chair.

you have to care and really love a person when they get any disease because it is hard on the caregiver.

You are so right @story07. The ups and downs everyday, especially with the Alzheimer's patient is awful. I would go in the house after working all day and being up from 2am, and she would scream and yell at me to get out and depending how tired I was, I would end up in tears sometimes.

You are right that it is hard for the caretaker to take good care of the sick person, who is so helpless when getting seriously ill.

It is great that whatever information we need can be found on the Internet, especially when some terms about some diseases are new to us, some diseases we have never encountered with.

We certainly learn a lot about things we never even thought of when a loved one gets ill.
