A little help please........the perfect post.

Now and then there are posts written on the subject of "the length of a post".A few of the Mylotters who have been here for a while take exception to short posts.(the one or two sentence discussions) There was one written just last week on this very subject. I do understand where you are coming from..... My question is ..what do you think is the appropriate/correct length for a post or approximately how many words should a post have? And ..please do not ask me to read the guidelines. It is your opinion I am asking for.

The length of your post here...its a minimum length......It takes at least this much to make a point. Like you just have. Having said that...i have responded to posts which are just 3 lines too. one and two lines are not so appealing to me...though i can read them without having to open the post.

yeah...it takes a certain amount of words to understand the author.... I like to know the mind of the person i am talking to.

no such monkey 's a 'perfect post'. 's long 's one draws folks'n, openin' more conversation i don't reckon the length truly matters? fer myself, i prefer a lil meat with my taters :)

I wouldn't worry about perfection your post is fine. The length is your choice. Whether it stays or not is out of your hands.

So I have experienced.(about the post staying or not.It was a "not") Good to hear that the length of the post is left up to the writer.

@jennyjoy The reader might struggle but we can always make up for it with interaction?

@Bluedoll At times I have struggled to understand what they mean. Will it be considered rude to question them?

some posts are too short and lack detail, like, for example, asking about another site but with no explanation or description about it. so when you scroll down to the responses, members are either asking what the site is about, or saying they never heard of it or not a member.

@jennyjoy it's okay to submit a short post, but give description, details, explanation, so readers will have an idea and you don't end up answering the same question again and again.

@hereandthere Clarity on the post and not the length of the post, is what is important.Got it!

My posts seem to be a bit longer than many. I don't care for very short posts and seldom read one. What you have done here is a good length.

Hmmm, I never really thought about it; I would say one or two paragraphs would be okay.... but I also tend to overwrite quite a bit lol.

@tammys85 I personally try to keep it short because people may not have the patience to read a long post.

Well for me , i always make sure that my posts are not lengthy because i don't want to have my reader take a lot of time reading my post , because i know she/he will still be going to others' posts .

it depends what the post is about - I don't mind short posts but some are short because the writer is really not saying anything. Someone writing 'I like bread' one post, 'I like beans' the next and so on through every kind of food is plainly not even trying

The length of the post should be precise enough so that it can be understood by the reader. Yours is fine.

I find it easy to read two or three short paragraphs; but one-liners which is incomplete is not so welcome.

I don't have an answer...my own tend to get too wordy as I ramble on about things. Then again, I only write one per day instead of one for each thing I do during the day.

The posts here are supposed to be just enough to start a discussion. Some are talented enough to do this with one good sentence. Maybe you should start a 'challenge' with all of us trying to do that!

Yes,I have noticed a few who do just that.It comes so naturally to them. The "Challenge " is a great idea.I may just post that.

There is not a "perfect" post, there are interesting short posts and interesting long posts, but too long is never a good idea. Three of four paragraphs are fine, more is a risk, most users do not even care to read to see if it's interesting.

Just my opinion is that a post should have a minimum of 4-5 sentences. That makes about a paragraph and is the right size to get a point across. I dislike one or two sentences, it almost seems like a half hearted attempt. Like their heart is not really in posting. More is fine too, shorter just seems like, to little. Again, my opinion though.
