Over 15 years ago l bought a 1.5 Liter water cooker( dont know what you call it at your place). It cost me less than $20 and l was expecting it to stop working in a month, l have been using it every single day since then and it has been going strong,no problems at all. Last week it stopped working and i feel sad,it has served me so well ,im going to buy the same brand. Have you bought anything so cheap but it served you as well? what was it?

Is that an electric kettle? I bought an inexpensive garlic press and it works like a dream.

I know how sad it is when something we like stop working. I bought a very inexpensive electric rice cooker 10 years ago at Aldi. I thought it would have not lasted more than 1 year, I still use it.

@miniam I bought a handmixer last winter for 10 Francs, it is better than the one made by Philips that I paid almost 95 Francs.

@LadyDuck Expensive is not always the best although we always want to believe that just because an item is expensive it should be good.

Love when that happens. I bought a Sanyo TV from Walmart and that thing lasted about 16 years. Never expected anything from Walmart to last more than a couple of years let alone 16. I wonder if Walmart still sells those TV's. Pretty sure the company loves that their products break after a couple of years that way people have to go shopping again.

@miniam I just looked and they are still out there at Walmart. Their new ones seem to have poor ratings though. I guess they started making them to Walmarts liking or I just got lucky with that one TV. lol

True, most companies will tell you they want to produce quality products but deep down they hope their product dont last more than 5 years. Sanyo? these have not been in the shops like forever, l only remember sanyo from when i was a kid

@crossbones27 They make them so you can only use for a few years, otherwise they will not make enough profit selling new ones

@miniam. The dollar tree is awesome. If you can still use the things and you can keep them for years.

If your picture is similar to what you bought, it's what we would call a tea kettle. I think the most comparable purchase I've made had to be our first rice cooker. It lasted us about 10 years, although I only paid about $15 for it. We replaced it with an identical one last year, and it broke within a month. The replacement for that one lasted two weeks, so we gave up altogether and purchased a more expensive one from another store. That one's still doing well, thankfully!

If it's just for boiling water we'd call it a kettle. We had a toaster as a wedding present and it's still going strong after more than 50 years, but I don't know how much it cost.

I have bought many things cheap that have lasted a while...it's really the way you handle items. If your hand is good to them, they will last longer.
